slightly disappointed. it peaked during the 2nd party scene to me. it had an insane energy and i was absolutely loving it. then after the incident, it devolved into the overdone trauma porn horror of the past 5 years.

and i found my mind wandering: why is this shyt so dark like everything from the past decade? why do all these prosthetics look the same the past few years? why is it always creepy old people? why is every movie above 90% on the tomatometer?

i was ready to give the ending the Seinfeld theater gif, but by the time i got to my car and got it, i liked it. 7/10 for me.

This is close to same for me.

Things that worked:

impressive sense of style, color, set design, almost all done at night, some cool shots towards the end, one of trees stood out

Powerful? efficient use of gore and bloody scenes

The whole incident with the kid harming himself having a strong dose of realism, (as compared to a lot of horror) where the police are there within minutes, and everyone has to explain themselves, that's usually not the exact norm for these kinds of horror

Solid acting all around

these are first time directors, so they will get better

Things that didn't really work/connect for me

The use of humor was near non existent, think most horror needs some humor to keep the audience balanced

The concept, tied with social media/phones was excellent, have we seen social media horror yet? but hardly touched on, as you mention past the second party scene

Just kind of turns into a very predictable retread of worse horror movies, with better production values, and indie style.

Probably tired of these kinds of movies and dead parents, and trauma and grief and so on. Just been done too much, or needs to have more humor to connect with the characters

This is why Midsommer worked so well, can remember full on laughing in that movie multiple times. This was just grim, with no relief, and no satire or social criticism, like Infinity Pool to hang the gore and horror on.

Scream 6 was the most fun I had in theaters this year, and best horror. It was funny, self mocking, self aware, had some actual scares.

Saw this last night 7/10 I enjoyed it but the lack of explanations for certain stuff kind of bothered me.
So....did Riley ever become free or what? Her mom was evil the entire time? Ghost made her stab her pops:picard:
Yes he’s free, Riley is good, what you see at the end is a full comeback. Along with the dad he survived as well.

That wasn’t her mom just a spirit imitating her mom to confuse her and she was already a loner so she was easily manipulated.

nah i dont believe so. I took the ending as when u die your mind plays out the happy version of the situation like her just getting up and assuming he was finally free with the typical happy ending until they opened the door and she on the other side of the game. Only thing i dont like is that they didnt explain why they latched on to her and everybody was like nah we good. Might be cause she was the only one that felt good after the possession.

It was dope how they sent the lil demon girl to line her up with the reverse uno “let me in”
And saw breh getting fukked up. If we get an extended cut i can see riley getting up stabbing his sister then murking himself like the opening scene

nah it was basically showing she was dead and didn’t realize it. Riley was good it basically showed he was healed and her father was healed but she never survived. But she’s in the in between world so that means just like everyone else she’s trying to get out cause she didn’t fully cross over. So basically everyone is fine but her. She died.

thats what i thought at first but unless the directors state that its all speculation because the movie clearly showed the contrast between her illusions and reality. She though fat girl was sucking homeboys foot but reality showed it was her. She heard her pops bangin on the door then break in and fukking her up but he was on the couch. The demons played good cop bad cop to line her up. The end is also another illusion of her thinking everything was good until she was summoned and was like oh shyt! Reality u failed

“We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line we can release that,” Danny Philippou says. “But also while writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film. So there’s so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”

I need to see this.

She and Riley and the dude who stabbed his brother all went over 90 seconds that’s why the demons latched onto all of them.

I’m not rocking with your assumptions.

'Talk to Me' Ending Explained I’m going with this. Especially when it comes to her father because if not then she should be tried for attempted murder or murder.

they still left it up to the viewer to decide so i guess unless we get the sequel or pre
Its up in the air. Im sure the chico who summoned her views her all mangled and shyt from the accident and not in her last human alive form like the rest of the lost souls. I think it hits harder when the main character takes the whole L. She cursed that kid bodied her pops scarred her friend and died :russ:

The story came across as an allegory to drug usage and the way some users can abuse such to deal with their grief. From the way the friends were strapped down in the same manner a heroin user would strap a belt around their arm before injecting themselves with a needle, to the way Mia got addicted upon the thrill, the high, of dangerous and life-changing conjuring. Riley wasn't addicted like Mia was and the effects faded over time. Mia did herself no favors by re-using 'The Hand' constantly. She fukked around and found out.

The way Mia cried out for her pops at the end to no acknowledgement stuck out to me and I liked how it tied back to earlier in the film when she didn't return her father's phone call....that shyt was brutal. I do agree with others on the lead coming across as unlikeable, but I notice that a lot with substance abusers in films. I also just enjoy whenever a film can have a character like this not hold my hand all the way through, lol. Nevertheless, I still found myself feeling some type of way about the way she went out, even if deserved, and that's credit to the crew behind the screen.

The sequence where each of the friends were taking turns with 'The Hand' was absolutely hilarious and just what I needed before the demonic shyt that went down afterwards. :dead:
