We supported the corruption and kleptocracy that was the old Afghanistan government with bribes and turning a blind eye to the wholesale theft of funds we sent. That corruption screwed over any progress that could of been made to improve education, infrastructure, the economy and the military:the U.S tried to modernize them, spent 2 decades attempting.
but what can you do when you give out free washing machines, teach them how to use them, then come back and they've dismantled them for scraps. or you're trying to teach soldiers strategy but they are high off opium? at that point you just have to let them figure it out themselves.
