the U.S tried to modernize them, spent 2 decades attempting.

but what can you do when you give out free washing machines, teach them how to use them, then come back and they've dismantled them for scraps. or you're trying to teach soldiers strategy but they are high off opium? at that point you just have to let them figure it out themselves.
We supported the corruption and kleptocracy that was the old Afghanistan government with bribes and turning a blind eye to the wholesale theft of funds we sent. That corruption screwed over any progress that could of been made to improve education, infrastructure, the economy and the military:

There is corruption every where. They also were the problem, they simply did not want to improve, as you can see by the thread title.

I literally gave you just a few links showing how massive corruption and graft over 20 years resulted in a country being taken almost immediately by people that could be transported to 1624 and not be out of place.

The only response you can give to that is "corruption is everywhere and they did not want to improve". Well It is hard to improve if people are stealing hundreds of billions of dollars that were meant for government services and depriving the country of the funds. I will be nice and say do not do yourself the disservice of giving such a basic and inaccurate response.

both widespread corruption and the lack of genuine commitment to improvement played critical roles in the failure of Afghanistan’s modernization and stability efforts. Without addressing these fundamental issues, no amount of foreign aid or military intervention could have made lasting change.

Thosep people and their culture is diabolical. I remember hearing about a tourist that went over there, ended up getting kidnapped in the middle of a busy street and taken to an abandoned warehouse where she was raped for like 5 days straight by over 200 men. When she got free she went to a police station and asked to speak to the police captain, he brought her in his office and after she told hiim that she was raped, he raped her. :snoop:

It was a massive mistake turning over the country to the corrupt Afghan government. Should of flushed Al-Qaeda out, lit up Taliban leadership and called it a day or take control of the country and modernize the country to combat the Taliban.
that's literally what we spent 21 years, trillions of dollars, and thousands of lives doing :skip:

No. Instead of doing the first option and never invading Afghanistan, we empowered cronies and warlords to run the country and made more of a priority/concern over security than actual grift.

We knew how corrupt the government was, but we rather deal with that we turned a blind eye in hopes to avoid political instability, but that failed miserably:
