They got 35% of 1,001 people that agreed with the statement. Of that 351, 48% of them identified as born-again, evangelical or fundamentalist which equals 168 people.

That's .00006% of the world's Christian population.

Unless I'm using incorrect numbers, there are more important matters to attend to. Also, I know the study wasn't done to 'belittle' anyone. It just isn't a 'big enough' problem, IMO, and that's a good thing.
No, you're still reading it wrong. Not 48% of the 35%. They asked everyone in the group if they're a self-identified born again, evangelical, or fundamentalist. Of those who said yes, 48% answered yes to the other question about prayer and mental illness. 35% of the whole group, including those self-described evangelicals said yes to the question.

"In total, complications occurred in 59 percent of those who were prayed for, compared with 51 percent of those who received no prayers, a significant difference."

pray for loved ones in the hospital, brehs.

It's 2013. How many thousands of years does it take to prove that prayer doesn't work?
Me thinketh thou doth not understand how prayer...eth workith.

You don't always get what you ask for. Hence me not being a billionaire. :manny:

Also, have you seen what churches do for some 'mental illnesses.? Do you know how many clinics and treatment centers are ran by Christian organizations. It's not like they are completely off base - and that's my main point.

this would only make sense if the ppl polled were those helping at treatment centers

You pray for one thing, and you get something else (because your prayer DIDN'T WORK)

Is there a handbook for how prayer works or something? I guess I just can't fathom the insane complexities of prayer.

"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

straight from the fukkin bible. Maybe you should try a different holy book.
If that prayer be the will of God then yessir you shall, even if you tell the mountains to fall into the sea:smile:

That's why we don't take one passage from a book and try to derive the entire meaning of the book from one line. That's a suckers game.

believing in the bible is a suckers game. If the prayer has to be "the will of God" then what is the point of even praying? Shouldn't God just will it, since, it's his will? Good googly moogly religion is so stupid friends.

That sounds like non-believer talk. If you believe then God's will > your will ergo reading and understanding the full book, not just one line. The object of "the game" is to want to live according to what God wants, not necessarily what you want. This is difficult/impossible for most (hence sin).

Yeah cause everlasting peace, tranquility, love > the shyt life you can afford your child, what a dikk this God.? Those prayers aren't wasted, they just get trumped by God's will. I personally would be sad if my child died but also happy they were going on to a better place. My love for them would make me miss them but also make me accept that they are with God. See how that works out. That's why passing, IMHO, is to be celebrated and why I have in my will "NO WEARING BLACK". ..i'm also looking at having a "stand up" comic show up:smile:. I don't want people sad when I'm gone, celebrate that shyt, be happy.

It can if you choose to believe it is. Just like saying not believing "sounds" hopeless. :manny: that's the funny thing about beliefs though, you have them based on your views of the world. You choose what "proof" you want and that's what you work with. Ultimately we all spend 50-100 years or so alive and then move on (or not move on).

now imagine living amongst ppl like these and you're the minority... the reasons why some atheists commit suicide is because ppl around them are so fuqqin retarded that they just don't ever see them coming back to their senses and say fuq it...
