Yes, that's what I was advocating for when you quoted me originally. Even if he didn't do exactly that he could have done more to put the RS on the spot regarding their not holding a vote on his nominee. It was inadequate. He didn't have to necessarily get the vote but damn at least try harder instead of taking a Clinton presidency as a given.
So are we in agreement that Obama did not have the option of shutting down the government in response to the Senate doing nothing on Garland?

I woke up today feeling depressed and anger. I'm furious with the 2016 non-voter. 100M fukking people didn't vote in 2016.

I remember I made a thread in TLR leading up to the election providing voting information and posters were questioning why.

Here's the thread. It's disgusting. I even said in the second or third post that even if you didn't like Hillary, it's important to go vote for the sake of the courts.

I was eligible for my first election in 2012 (turned 18 in summer of 2011) and have voted faithfully ever since, like I legit get confused by people who refuse to vote at all just a society full of myopic, nihilistic, proudfully anti intellectual people.

There is a position as a legal argument that says a president can appoint a judge if the Senate refuses to do so because they've abdicated their constitutional duty. Constitutionally, the prez has the power to appoint SC judges, so if the Senate does nothing, that legally should not bind the prez's hands. Which in hindsight, he 100% should have done.
That seems clearly unconstitutional to me, but post a link to the argument I want to read it. I remember a lot of discussion of a recess appointment but that was supremely flawed as well.

You did already, veto the budget.
That was a hypothetical. I don’t believe he had the opportunity to sign any budgets or appropriation resolutions during the relevant timeframe. Correct me if I’m wrong.
