I could've sworn I read him learning about his Kryptonian heritage being a plot point which is literally the same thing. I could be wrong tho... :hubie:

I never ever need to see Pa Kent, Uncle Ben, or Martha and Thomas Wayne die in a movie again. Thank God Gunn understands this.
I vividly remember DC's first rollout. I kept saying they needed to do origin stories cause that gets the fans hooked and caring about their characters... All the biggest and best comic movies (at the time) were all the origin stories.........

And DC said "Nah, we don't need that shyt, lets power through"

And completely fukked it up

If your writing is good enough, your fans will be hooked and care about the characters w/o retreading the origin story. :yeshrug:

Major part and I've said such since day 1 of Batman vs Superman being a thing.. People love an origin story. They fukking love it. Even if they seen it, put a little spin on it, and they'll watch it every time. I mean we on Batman series 5 or 6, just in my lifetime, and we're waiting on a 7th version. Not even counting other media like TV and animation. People care about the beginning.

Every single DC series from 60s to MoS, had an origin to it. Every single time it was successful. The second they started chasing Marvel, by skipping the origins to get to their team up, they were doomed. They successfully went back and fixed it, but were too shook to try the team up again..

MoS was successful.. Skipped right to BvS. You didn't introduce Batman to new people. shyt you skipped his whole career. Same with WW. Same with Lex. Movie was seen as trash, everyone ALMOST suffered for it. Suicide Squad comes, origin, does great. WW origin, does great. JL, again, you got all these characters, you've done the origin of Superman and WW to this point. fukks them up again. Aquaman, origin, does great. Shazam, origin, does great. Birds of Prey, team up movie with a bunch of people you don't care about but one.. You see a pattern here?

By then they calling Gunn to get this shyt restarted... His first movie.. 100 characters and no origins...

Save this post

What's the comic movie that does that? When have we seen the first movie, not give you the origin of the characters (None as he says) and had people hooked?

Would Watchmen count?
Been a while since I watched it, but the Matt Reeves batman movie wasnt an origin story was it? Batman already established.

You bring up Batman vs Superman, but the issue with that wasnt that Batman didnt have an "origin" movie, it was the fact that they chose a teamup movie to introduce Batman. They couldve done a decent Batman movie, w/o it being an origin, and been fine with the teamup, but they wanted to rush.
Like you bring up Suicide Squad being "successful", but it was critically panned and fans hated it. It was trash that made money and helped put the nail in the DCEU or w/e it was called.

Writing makes you care about a character. Not just having an origin.

I trust Gunn to get it right :manny:
You also being extra with the "100 characters and no origins" shyt. All your examples of no origins not working are about a teamup movie. This superman movie isnt a team up movie. You can do a superman movie w/o rehashing the early farm days, him losing Poppa Kent, learning "to care" etc.

If they ever show an origin on screen again, this is the perfect one. Short, sweet and to the point. You don't need to spend more than 5 minutes on an origin sequence

People don't want to see a movie because they have an origin story, they go because it looks like it will be a good movie.

A two minute scene showing Thomas and Martha getting shot doesn't make or break a movie's success.

I'm pretty sure we didn't see Tom Holland get bit by a spider or see Uncle Ben say his famous line, but people still fukk with the movie because it's well made and it's fukking Spiderman.

Extra.. I could be off by some, but there were reports of him having 100 some characters in this movie. They won't be all intricate players, but have we seen one with more than 20 before? Let alone how many he cramming in here

You're absolutely right about The Batman, and that's actually my fav Batman.

I agree it doesn't NEED it... What I am saying is 99% of them have it... The ones that don't, 99% of them fail.

The basic rules of any story is a beginning intro, a middle conflict, and ending result. This is the same for each character. It's extremely hard to get your audience to care about the conflict or it's resolution, if you've skipped over who they are and why it matters to them.

I do think you can get away with it, but it has to be amazing. A lot of people shyt on this Batman and it's still my fav. Even over Nolan's (who had an origin story). People couldn't wait to put Joker over Nolan's Joker though, because they witnessed his come up. It's like a child. One you been with since birth and the other you met at 16.. They are both your children. And at the age of 21, you know both of them well.. But the one you witnessed come out the womb, you gonna care about juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a little more

We're at like 11.

There have been movies with origin stories that failed.

I saw Alec Baldwin get his powers in the Shadow.

Steel, Hulk, Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Green Lantern, Fantastic Four, and Morbius all had origin stories.

No one bases their decison to see a movie or not on whether there is an origin story.
People couldn't wait to put Joker over Nolan's Joker though, because they witnessed his come up.
Has nothing to do with seeing his comeup and morso Joaquin putting on an amazing performance.

Some say Tom Holland is the best Spiderman and we didn't see him get bit by the spider.

We didn't see Keaton going through training but his portrayal is loved so much that DC hoped that his inclusion in the Flash would cover up the flaws of the movie.

Were those real reports or sites making clickbait?
Screenrant which is somewhat reputable only has like 10 characters so far.

Them having 100 characters wouldnt even make sense logistically/screentime wise.
