My brother's keeper
My bad, I meant the '08 and '09 drafts for OKC but same shyt.

point is multiple top 5 picks beats drafting 10 and then in the late teens/ 20s

You can't build through the draft by consistently drafting outside the lottery.

A player shouldn't spend a career being punished for that

primarily? some of the biggest contributors signed as Free Agents or were acquired through a trade. Shaq, Rick Fox, Robert Horry, Brian Shaw, Glen Rice, Mitch Richmond.

Kobe (yeah, even though he was officially drafted by another team, I will consider him a Laker draft pick) and D-Fish are draft picks. How were those teams primarily built through the draft?

:childplease:'

Go look at the post I was responding to. I was talking about the 80's Lakers.

Philly got dr j and moses thru trades

The rest were built thru drafts/trades

What Im saying is back then only a handful of teams competed for titles

which is the same as right now

Spurs, lakers, bulls, heat, rockets with the mavs and pistons being the exception have won every title since 1991

4 teams in the last 21 years have won 19 championships

2 2nd tier players and a past prime aging ex superstar is not a superteam a perfect combination they were.

nikkas trying to underrate how good Peirce and Ray were before they teamed up. Ray avg 26 ppg and Peirce avg 25 ppg before they made the big 3.......

Y'all can't be serious

well the post you were responding too also quoted me saying i was wrong when i said:

The Lakers of recent that won back to back to back, and then back to back. Those were mostly draft picks?

So I thought maybe you were continuing his point. And there's other people in here claiming those Laker teams were built through the draft. :russ:

The point is that what's going on in the NBA today is nothing new.

Let me save some time

Me: It's always been that way

Some 20 year who's first memory of the NBA is the Mike's Bulls: Bu bu but those teams were built through the draft and trades

Me: What does it matter how they were built if the result is the same? I thought the issue was having a few teams dominating the league?

Some 20 year old who's first memory of the NBA is Mike's Bulls: Well uh um it's just not fair superteams are ruining the league. *insert random baseless 3rd grade level insults*

Not even on Bosh level?

You wouldn't take prime Peirce over Bosh?

We wanna act like evrybody didn't know they would win a title when they got together.

Peirce was putting up them numbers even when they was making the playoffs with Antoine Walker.

Again y'all tripping.......

if a small market team doesn't get lucky in the draft they are screwed.

If you have a transcendent superstar and can't figure out how to put a team around them, you deserve everything you get.

The teams that do figure it out almost always do well.

The NBA is a player driven league and basketball a player driven game unlike baseball, football, or hockey. Guys like Bron, Kobe, Shaq, Duncan in their primes can change games and whole series singlehandedly. The GMs that put a team around them ending up winning.

These stacked teams aren't anything new. Superstar players finally realized that they want to play with other good players and are now willing to force themselves to it instead of having GMs screw up their careers making bad decision after bad decision.

This pretty much covers it.

If a super team is formed like Oklahoma City where the franchise makes good draft picks and trades then it isn't a problem. That is just good team management.

What people object to is teams like the Heat, Knicks, and Nets using free agency and players demanding trades to create all star teams.

You people don't ven use your heads anymore mofo said using free agency
