JR Smith - The NY Post said:
“I’ve always wanted to start. Everybody knows that. Everybody knows how I feel about that,” he said. “I won the Sixth Man [Award] last year, so I feel as though there’s nothing left to prove at the sixth-man spot. But at the same time, if that’s what my team needs me to do, that’s what I’ll do. If Coach [Mike Woodson] wants me to be a sixth man, I’ll be a sixth man. If he wants me to start, I’ll start. That’s up to him.’’

“As far as now, no telling who the starter will be. When [Woodson] decides to make the choice, we both have to live with it, between myself and Shump. It’s a competition at this point. He’s winning. He’s healthy, he’s able to play. When I’m back ready, I’ll be back ready.’’

Okay... on the topic of J.R, KnicksFam Rant time...

It's funny how J.R has the audacity to actually say, "...there's nothing left to prove."

:comeon:

Bruh...I'm a fan of yours and I appreciate your contribution to the Knicks but stop looking at your stats on paper and realize your immaturity and apparent lack of focus is what is actually keeping you back. I would go on the record with what little credibility I have right now and say J.R could be a top 10 player in this league if he had fervent discipline.

I never bought into the claims that J.R is inconsistent, he's just too timid w/ driving, thus people NEVER sag off of him when he settles for his contested step back jumper. I've always maintained that if he truly embraced his versatile offensive repertoire... he'd evolve to an all-star level.

On defense, he has the quickness and the hands to be able to be a pesky defender yet he gambles too much. That's his problem on D. Start playing D organically, set your feet, keep your hands up and lower your stance, don't gamble and just stay in between your man and the basket... Especially w/ smart "defensive" players like Prigs, Metta, K-Mart and Shump on the team, if he focused we'd see serious improvement.

J.R Smith... you are like that 5 bedroom Brownstone in the far reaches of Bed -Stuy... The appraisal of which is less that $400k because of the poor shape the inside is in. But if the owner put the work in, flipped the house, new furniture, new pipes & lights, fixed the foundation...it'd be worth over $2m.

So Earl... you do have something to prove. Prove you have the mentality to elevate, mature and evolve, when that happens, your Basketball Presence would crush the buildings...:blessed:

If shump can't hold onto his starting job maybe jr does deserve it . Shump doesn't have to be a 20 ppg ( that would be nice ) but we need him to be the defensive stopper he can be

Well despite all of that he was the 6th man of year :manny: I hope he doesn't regress any and actually features the drive more .

If JR wins the starting job, is Shumpert supposed to be our bench dynamo? I am not certain that Iman is ready to carry the B team. He has not established a repertoire yet.

Or maybe the second-string can compete 'by committee'....Shump, Stat, and THJr??

That's why I feel bad for jr because I think when push comes to shove that's a big reason he won't start . Woodson to me is just trying to motivate both players

Interesting enough, Shump does get into early foul trouble too often. In a worse case scenario, Shump coming off the bench fresh could possibly work. He wouldn't be going against "Fresh" defenders, so maybe he'd be able to :cook:

Again, I pro ShumpStart but... just to speculate, I liked how much fun Timmy & Shump had durign the preseason, I could see a small ball line up of Prigs, THJR, Shump, Metta, K-Mart having a little fun...IF, Timmy maintains that confident J and Iman shows consistency.

Again... just speculating.:whoa:

Good post but I have never seen Shump actually carry the squad. He can't just dunk and run fast and expect to dominate off the bench. He needs solid skills that we can identify.

Tim Hardaway Jr. cannot sustain this level of play. He is a rookie. It is almost definite that he will hit the wall and have serious bouts of inconsistency...and crises of confidence once these pro vets get at him. :sadbron:

Metta? Prigs? Scoring? :heh:

K-Mart? :flabbynsick: I hate to say it but I don't think Kenyon can last a full season.

It may be mandatory for Smith to come of the bench, the more I look at whose left after inserting our best weapons in the starting lineup.

:ehh: I agree. I'll cancel that rotation from my imagination. Good analysis.

Yeah. Logic has pretty much condemned JR to the bench and I have convinced myself that is best for the team.

I think we are going to have some locker room fights brehs. JR versus Shump. Shump and Metta are already getting it in.

This team is going to be combustible.

Thuggery has a tendency to implode on itself....

They will reconcile...but they will take it to the limit. Metta is not going out like Willie Lump Lump. Shump has a lot of heart and Metta will attempt to son him. I am not sure if Shump can or will be subordinate to Ron forever....at least not in the heat of battle, during intense practices with mega-trashtalking.

I can see it...
