Sure. They can and have been. The real question though, is why can't black people ever be the hero in big budget productions?

Are you serious.

Sure champ. You don't know what the fukk you are talking about. You could have at lest named a few. you ain't name any. lol
Named any what?

The main shows we got now and empire and black ish.

The dad in black ish is the closest to morally right and its a comedy show

Empire had a dude following the gay agenda as the morally right character.

If you fail to notice how straight black men stopped being shown in a good light these days then your a fool.

:usure: empire is the most popular show right now
There's several popular shows on TV right now, Empire, GoT, Better Call Saul and TWD, SoA finished a couple of months ago.

My point is at least two shows among the most popular puts black men in a negative light, in TWD case all of the black men except for Morgan is a wimp on that show.

i dunno fam. watching reccess...vince was the coolest character. watching weekenders/filmore/hey arnold....again the black characters were always the coolest.

then you got all the athletes on tv

outside of that i mainly watched seinfeld, gundam wing, pokemon and dragonball z which didnt exactly slight blk ppl

I hear you. I was able to watch football matches, boxing etc. but actual tv? Nah. To each its own but i was better for it. Spent my time reading, playing and balling instead.

Cartoons even have subtle messages in them though. You don't think there were subtle messages behind Gerald's persona in hey arnold? Some of the other cartoons you listed have had racist allegations levied against them as well. 90 percent of the people writing, directing and making film/tv are white. I'll leave it at that.

Anytime a group is stereotyped as being one thing you will have issue. If your a black boy that is not cool not good at sports. You will feel like an outcast

The individualists in this thread talking about what shows THEY watch are kind of missing the point.

The point is, television and the media generally depicts blacks as inferior to whites. If thats the kind of content produced empirically, thats gonna be the kind of content viewed empirically. So the self esteem of blacks are empirically effected.

Im happy you're different but if you want other blacks to be as great as you, the images have to generally change because while certain individuals can and will have certain traits, the traits of groups however are influenced by environment, which media is a part of.

Hope I did a decent job explaining this to you guys.

Someone gets it.

Are you serious.

1) Morpheus is not the hero in The Matrix.

2) Even assuming all of your examples meet the criteria, and they don't, ask yourself, "do we represent approximately 13 percent (black people in US) of heros?" If the answer is no, and it is, why is that? What percent of criminals do we represent in TV vs real life? If there is a significant disparity, then why is that.?

I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty for watching trash TV (I watch my fair share), I'm simply stating that these questions should be explored. Don't even get me started on the portrayal of black women in the media.
