This is something I've always assumed (and data have supported for some time). I much prefer shows and movies with positive portrayals of black people. For example I thoroughly enjoy Black-ish but have never seen an episode of Empire. Of course, what makes money is watching blacks tear each other down. I enjoyed watching television as a kid because it was an escape from reality. I still use it as a relaxing escape from reality. The self esteem is more about which type of stuff people are choosing to watch. Actually interacting with people in person had more of an affect on my self esteem than watching television.
