I think hiit (airdyne bike, battle ropes, hill sprints) and intense weight lifting (compound moments) are great for amping up your metabolic system. You get epoc and hypertrophy which is great for a cut.

So why not have both :win:

What are you doing for fat loss?

God forbid it is strictly Cardio.

Let us examine this topic.

I see this guy at the gym and i had to put him on game about his long sessions on the treadmill. We began talking and i told him...

"For fat loss, that aint going to cut it (as much as strength training). I told him That he's better off picking up some dumbbells and begin lifting heavy as though hes trying to be a body builder.

"Like a body builder?" he questions,

i replied "Yes. Lift weight as though you are trying to build muscle, as though you are going for what is called hypertrophy. Hypertrophy strength training is the route to take for fat loss."

He continues in doubt saying.. "But im fat. How is building muscle mass going to help lose weight to fit into slim clothes if im building muscle. Wont i just get even bigger than i am now??"

Ive notice this is a common thought process when overweight folks hear people making suggestions to build muscle.

That said, I believe Hypertrophy training is the way to go for fat loss.
Some think INTERVAL training
Others think HIIT training and so on....

Anyone else have a take on this?
Any suggested routines we all can put under a "microscope" for public analysis?

Yes. Hypertrophy training IS gaining muscle mass. You will gain muscle mass size mostly according to how you train and eat

Therefore the important thing to remember is MUSCLE mass - not fat mass.

Putting on more muscle mass encourages the body to burn more calories hence fat.

So "fat" people need not shy away from muscle mass thinking they will only get "bigger." This will only happen if they aren't getting everything else right (no stress, good sleep, hydration, nutritious foods, balanced hormones, caloric intake control, etc.)

Loosing fat weight is an all inclusive thing. Hypertrophy training is but a piece (the "how should I train?" piece) in the many pieces to the puzzle of Loosing Fat Weight.

Body beast program is a form of hypertrophy training and its fine for rookies. Honestly ive made my best gains doing hypertrophy but start out with what makes u comfortable at first. After a month u can switch it up

My routine used to consist of 45 mins of cardio followed by 45 min - 1hr plus of weights EVERY session. Now I spend about an hour and a half or so on weights and calesthenics and do HIIT cardio 3 times a week. I love to do hill sprints at this nice lil park by my house or go to the gym, put the treadmill on about 12 and get my HIIT in that way. In a matter of weeks I've noticed the difference in my physique. For me at least, this is the way to go the days of long boring cardio sessions are over.

I find a mix cardio and strength training work really well for fat loss, building muscle and getting lean.

I start of with cardio to warm up then move on to the weights and strength machines. Then I alternate - cardio, strength, cardio, strength and so on.

I lift heavy on a full body routine 3-4 times a week and do cardio 2 times a week with 1 metcon section.

But lifting helps you lose bodyfat...I only do
cardio for pure health a 30 minute session and 45 minute session a week...Metcon is something that involved cardio/weights/calisthenics.

OP you advised him correctly imho but you should also tell him no matter what as you age you can't outrun a bad diet.
