I try to stick with whatever I was doing to gain size and let diet cardio (cardio was Stairmaster, Sled Drags, boxing/jump rope this past winter) cover the fat loss.
Reason was if I keep things consistent it's easier to narrow down the culprit if fat loss stalls
Joints ache all the time or cloudy brain (hydration)
your strength starts dropping too quick or if you're a miserable b*stard all the time (calorie deficit is too much)
Etc
If it's just someone overweight who has been a couch potato honestly just getting them moving is gonna be enough to at least start the ball rolling.
If they're REALLY overweight I start them em on an excersize bike of some kind and since often times their feet pronate pretty bad and that's the easiest way to not have them come back in a few weeks complaining about their knees/back. Just to get them used to really working while keeping them safe. Weight training is king IMO but it's dangerous to force it on folks who aren't ready. That's why there's so many memberships being paid for but not used
