people care too much about MVPs when they've never been about acknowledging the best player in the NBA. It's narrative, team success and regular season performance without any consideration for the playoffs. Shaq didn't get robbed and Kobe didn't get robbed. That's just how the voting works.

Nash is one of the most influential offensive players ever and deserves to be in that top five PG all time conversation, as well as the top 30 player all time conversation. That's all that matters.

Thank you dawg!

The Mavericks beat the Spurs in game 5 on the road in the '03 WCF WITHOUT Dirk (Who injured his knee in game three, Nelson wouldn't let him play the rest of the series). They only lost game 4 by 7 without Dirk too. Are you saying that if Nowitzki were healthy in the entire series there was "no way" they were going to the finals?

They didn't have a Steve Nash problem. It was unfortunate circumstances in their best year together and then the following year a change to the rotation at the complete sacrifice of defense. The Mavericks had a top ten defense with Nash already in '03, and a historically dominant offense. That's championship material.

Great teams win championships. Not about defense or offense in isolation.

Nash's defensive woes are usually overblown by those trying to detract from his career for whatever reason. Yeah, he was physically limited. But he wasn't catastrophic and did contribute as a team defender. It is much easier to hide a limited defensive point guard than other positions - Dirk without being paired next to a defensive center was more of a liability than Nash. But you've yet to criticize him for some reason.

You probably blame Nash for Phoenix being average-below average defensively and not Amare or MDA"s approach that fundamentally sacrifices defense for offense. You're just using him as a scapegoat.

Breh, I'm a MAVS fan and those Nash Mavericks teams were trash on defense.

Steve Nash didn't even try to play defense and used to always be winded in the playoffs.

Jason Terry was a better complement to Dirk than Steve Nash.

how can a 9th ranked defense be trash....

I don't doubt you're a Mavericks fan and you may have watched all their games. But fans can have confirmation bias too and come to conclusions that aren't actually true.

The Mavericks were at their worst defensively when they sold out on offense by playing Dirk at center. You had Antoine Walker and Antawn Jamison as forwards in '04. These are crucial defensive positions being filled by sieves. That had more to do with the Mavericks being a bottom defense than Nash. When they paired Dirk with a defensive specialist at center they were much better. That's where Diop, Dampier, Chandler provided value.

Terry was a better compliment in the sense of allowing Dirk to have a greater role in the offense. The TEAM is better with Nash and DIrk together. Individually sure, Dirk is better with someone who doesn't need the ball as much.

How many of y'all saw Nash on the Mavericks? Was he an all-time great then? And he was playing under Nellie. The architect of small ball. He was the same exact player in Phx, but played faster in D'Antoni's SSOL offense. Then when Terry Porter was the coach, had them playing that slower half court offense, the team struggled, and Nash was back to his Mav stats (like 16 & 8), and the numbers picked back up with Gentry bringing back a modified SSOL offense. D'Antoni offense turned Felton to a 20 & 9 PG, Duhon at like 12 & 7.

Kidd improved team W's when he arrived 3x (3 Js, Phx went from 27 W's to 53, Nets), and was never an MVP...including turning into a team's leading scorer, as a PG that couldn't score. John Stockton avg over 12 apg for like 8-9 seasons with a few seasons of 14apg (with 17ppg). To put it in perspective even more, Terry Porter has maybe 4-5 seasons of 16 + & 9, and is only a 2 time all-star. Fat Lever was close to a triple double for 4-5 years and is only a 2x All-Star. Rod Strickland never been an All-Star...KJ, Tim Hardaway...etc were 20+ & 10 PGs and aren't even considered for anything.

Nash is a great PG, a Top 10 PG (possibly Top 7 due to that Phx stretch), but other players did what he did, some did more things better and don't get the recognition he does. He also only excelled playing one style of ball.

If anything, the Suns that are the most disrespected are KJ & Matrix.

They lost to the eventual champs in the Conference Finals. How is that a knock on Nash? :dwillhuh:
