Did Dantoni and his system play just as much a part in the Suns improving along with the arrival of Nash? I still believe Shaq should have won the MVP that season but the fact that they won 33 more fukking games means it wasn't a robbery like i used to think years ago. And the 2006 one should have been Bron's coronation but Nash putting up better numbers with Amare hurt and the Suns still being one of the best teams in the West got it for him that year.

people care too much about MVPs when they've never been about acknowledging the best player in the NBA. It's narrative, team success and regular season performance without any consideration for the playoffs. Shaq didn't get robbed and Kobe didn't get robbed. That's just how the voting works.

Nash is one of the most influential offensive players ever and deserves to be in that top five PG all time conversation, as well as the top 30 player all time conversation. That's all that matters.

He was a great players. The suns could've been the champs in 2007 if it wasn't for bytch ass Donaghy and dirty spurs. Nash would've been much more respected if they won that year.

Why I don't put him up there with the Greats is because the Mavericks actually got better when he left. :manny:
Mavericks also beat him in the Playoffs. :manny:

The Mavericks had a frontcourt of Dirk (Center) and Antoine Walker with Finley/Antawn Jamison rotating at SF in 2004.

Pairing Dirk with a defensive center in '05 (similar to '03 when the Mavericks won 60 games with a top ten defense), replacing Antawn's minutes with Josh Howard who came into his own were the reason for their improvements. The team also played much better after Don Nelson resigned and Avery Johnson took over (went 16-2 in the final two months of the season). Could've been done with Nash on the roster and the team would've been much better.

Nash played zero defense.

It's no way they was going to the finals with a point guard playing zero defense and was always fatigued in the playoffs.

Defense win championship.

Nothing but Defense on this squad. Dirk had his best defensive year of his career in 2010-2011.

The Mavericks beat the Spurs in game 5 on the road in the '03 WCF WITHOUT Dirk (Who injured his knee in game three, Nelson wouldn't let him play the rest of the series). They only lost game 4 by 7 without Dirk too. Are you saying that if Nowitzki were healthy in the entire series there was "no way" they were going to the finals?

They didn't have a Steve Nash problem. It was unfortunate circumstances in their best year together and then the following year a change to the rotation at the complete sacrifice of defense. The Mavericks had a top ten defense with Nash already in '03, and a historically dominant offense. That's championship material.

Great teams win championships. Not about defense or offense in isolation.

Nash's defensive woes are usually overblown by those trying to detract from his career for whatever reason. Yeah, he was physically limited. But he wasn't catastrophic and did contribute as a team defender. It is much easier to hide a limited defensive point guard than other positions - Dirk without being paired next to a defensive center was more of a liability than Nash. But you've yet to criticize him for some reason.

You probably blame Nash for Phoenix being average-below average defensively and not Amare or MDA"s approach that fundamentally sacrifices defense for offense. You're just using him as a scapegoat.
