I've heard that day care centers upped their price of a brick during these times.

:francis:
I would have :manny: A lot of school age kids need childcare ALL day, along with the infants and preschoolers. My friend has 28 school age kids attending her center, all learning virtually, across 13 different schools and 2 school districts.

She had to hire more staff, increase breakfast/snack/lunch budget, get a better/more expensive Internet package, electricity bill increased, along with making sure all these kids are logging on and doing work.

Unless you for a 6 figure job, you’d be going to work just to afford daycare.

Whole system is fukked :smh:

I don’t think the whole system is fukked. I’m an advocate for local, small, black-owned childcare centers. I think it’s the easiest, best and few ways to introduce black children to black culture and black males in leadership/teaching positions. I would love for more black men to do childcare.

It was also very affordable and convenient. I’ve never paid more than $500/month for childcare and had access for 12 hours a day. I don’t think your elderly, retired relatives should be caring for your infants/toddlers all day and especially for free. Childcare has the better impact on the child to me, but I only have my perspective.

Black or not, you can’t trust everyone. It’s great you found a good situation, but most people aren’t that lucky.

Average childcare cost is $200 a week. If you have two kids that’s $1600 a month. That’s almost and entire salary.

As with any product most likely you get what you pay for, shouldn’t be bargain hunting with your kids lives. Lots of kids end up with retired relatives cause it’s the safest place for them and the only thing their parents can afford.

Eh. I feel that childcare is one area where “you get what you pay for” doesn’t always apply. Of course make sure they are licensed, but otherwise I’d go by observation.
