And how was that paid for?

Im not being facetious, just legitimately curious.

Deficit spending essentially. Treasury will issue out IOUs to fund additional expenses. Same thing is going to be done with this $1.9T stimulus plan. Treasury will issue out IOUs which the Federal Reserve will buy with newly printed money. The Treasury will turn that money over to Congress which will then spend on various programs.

Check out this doc if you have time (30 mins total). Pretty good explanation of how the whole Economic machine works. Start at 22:10 min for explanation of the Central government’s economic roles and the relationship between the Fed and the Treasury/Central Government.

EDIT: Video link

Say brehs, how are we paying for all this?

The same way “we” pay for the billions in corporate bailouts to wall st and the airlines and billions that go to places like Israel where their citizens get free healthcare and free higher education along with a number of other free social programs. Everytime you hear about the govt spending a dollar it’s money “we” contributed because the govt doesn’t make money. So there’s no need worrying about where the money is coming from now that it’s going to regular people, you’ve never worried about it before.

Where’s the money coming from? You. You’re gonna work longer and harder and eventually pay higher taxes too.

No? The bonus that was meant to subsidize the considerable loss of income millions suffered after the shutdowns ended on August 1st, 2020. Since then, millions have succumbed to massive debt, many of them living off of credit cards. Those people must be made whole or the stimulus is meaningless.

:yeshrug:

What country do you think you live in? You think those people care they caused millions to go into debt?

Any word on deferring college loans as well?

Not referring to the possibility of loan forgiveness but just in general like they’ve had for the past 6-8 months.
Not that I’ve seen. Still sets to expire the end of this month. I hope they keep interest rates at zero at least.
