Didn't agree with the result myself... BUT... when you look at what else was happening, HHH was bound to win the feud either way, which might have hurt Booker just as much. Because with Goldberg signing and due to start running thru competition and challenge for the title in months, it was only gonna be up against the top heel on the show. So if Booker had won at Mania, he was gonna lose it back to HHH anyway, which ultimately sends the same message his heel promos were implying. Even if by storyline, Booker did prove he could beat H, losing it back would've said he wasn't that good after all. They surely weren't gonna do Goldberg/HHH without the title involved, and the show was revolving around Evolution as the big heel group running things... so Booker vs anyone else for the title would've been overshadowed.
I wasn't really shocked at Booker not winning it (due to how HHH was being booked at the time as Flair-lite), but storyline-wise, it shouldn't have gone in the racial direction in the 1st place.
