It's pretty clear that the league is trying to push it and we all know why (light skinned, from an upperclass family, "good boy,") but jesus christ talk about the worst face of the league in NBA history. I thought "face of the league" was reserved for transcendent, generational talents and if we're being honest Curry certainly isn't one. On top of that, the face of the league is supposed to look physically imposing. You wanna see him and go, "that guy is an athlete." I look at Curry and feel confident I could give him the hands in a pickup game scrap. :scust:

I think your post is funny.........but the point about his family is interesting. I notice they like to showcase his family when he makes an incredible shot which is great and all. However...............................................................I've never seen them show Lebron's wife and kids if he does a great shot or something..........................???????????

It actually has very little to do with his excitement level.

It's the "average joe complex." He's not athletic, has bad ankles, came from a privileged household, just looks like he has no business being in the league but is doing well for himself. He's a family man, a christian, etc. The NBA knows that mediocre dudes can relate to him and that makes him a goldmine, but from a pure talent and respect for the game standpoint he doesn't deserve that mantle.

Jordan
Shaq
Kobe
LeBron
Curry

One name is not like the others. Is this really how far we've come? :mjlol:

I threw in the light skin thing because like it or not, the closer you are to looking white the easier you are to market, and this is coming from a light skin. If talent strictly had to do with qualifying you as the face of your sport then Sharapova wouldn't be making twice as much in endorsements as Serena. But she is.:skip:

If Michael Jordan was lightskin do you really think I'd be saying he was only the face of the league because of his complexion? :francis:

And u completely forgot that Iverson was the face of the NBA at one point... He ain't MJ or Shaq good lol.

Curry is the face because he is the MVP and is about to win FMVP.

I hope you are smarter than this thread because this shyt is beyond idiotic

Problem with the ego-fueled, machismo-driven culture of sports today.

This guy would rather fawn over muscle bound, steroid freaks with shrunken testicles than appreciate a hard-working, intelligent "every man" that can inspire kids even without certain physical advantages to consider a career in athletics.

Not only that but Bron is not exactly known for his toughness. In fact one could make an argument that he is the softest (for sure mentally) top ten player of all time. Curry may look soft but he probably has more heart than Bron.

Iverson averaged 31-33ppg and was leading an absolutely sorry 76ers team to deep playoff runs. He took that team to the Finals and stole a game from one of the most dominant NBA teams of all time (they hadn't dropped a game up until then) behind a heroic 48 point performance. I do believe my definition for that term was: "A player who puts up monster stats and whose presence alone guarantees the sorriest of teams an extra 20-30 wins." He's no exception to the rule.

Iverson was also transcendent in his integration of hip-hop culture into the NBA. He was the epitome of "cool." There wasn't a single kid growing up watching hoops who didn't wanna be like AI at one point, regardless of race or background.

:mjlol: @ you thinking mentioning Iverson was going to hurt my argument when all you really did was help it.

You can critique Curry for being unathletic... one thing you can't question though is his talent. He is one of the best players in the game today despite his lack of athleticism, simply due to his talent. He is easily one of the most skilled players in the NBA today. Or do you want him to front flip from the free throw line before you would consider him as talented as the others?

I won't argue your point in him having the "image" that suburban white folks might be able to relate to (the NBA at the end of the day is a business first and a league second), but I'm not sure that should detract from the guy's talent level.

LeBron will still be the face of the league just in a different way

The "face of the league" will be the LeBron/Steph rivalry

Are Bron's wife and kids at the games like that? I don't know.

And they were showing Curry's family when he was Davidson.
