It will sell but people looking back now are realizing that gta 5 wasn’t all that.

I had fun with gta 5 still do. I don't understand why it's so hated...:manny: my main problem was them putting online over the story mode dlc

Again people will subscribe to services that have content they want at a reasonable cost. It's been proven over and over again. The problem isn't that people don't want such a service the problem is it won't be offered to them.

Microsoft made the claim that you'd get all their games day 1 on their service then proceeded to mostly release nothing and filled the service with old games, flops, unknown new 3rd party franchises with no hype, and indie games.

It's like what if cable was a bunch of home shopping networks, public access, and CSPAN with no local channels and none of the big cable channels like ESPN, TNT, and TLC? The appeal of such a service would be very limited.

Content people want is required for subscription services. Kindle Unlimited suffers from the same effect Game Pass does. Most of the good popular books are kept off the service entirely or only come when they're many years old and sold through. The primary use of the service is niche titles and titles from unknown of smaller authors.

It wouldn’t work for sony or nintendo either. It’s a money pit. Look at HBO they put out arguably the best content out of all the major streaming services (as you can see by their emmy and golden globe nominations and wins) and they still have to license out their tv shows to other providers. HBO was still putting their big shows on cable tv a few years back.

I’m gonna tell you now, GTA6 will gross more than any other form of media that releases next year. Easily…and i say that as someone who’s not a huge fan of GTA.

Back during the og trilogy the games only came out of PlayStation and were much more revered.

Yeah they sell like hot cakes, are a lot more easily accessible and appeal to the broadest demographics (look we got a suburban white guy and racist white hick and a black guy to play as) and now a latino chick but if the games didn’t hold the franchise name it be different.

When gta 5 came out lots of media outlets claimed it was the best game ever made.:comeon:

Like I said gaming peaked when it was made for a niche crowd when nerds critiqued it deciding what was acceptable and valued franchises over shovelwear. Since the console wars games have been manufactured for the mass market. God of war 8, halo 9, call of duty 20, gears of war 7, gta 6. It’s laughable at this point. Not to even mention micro transactions.

I remember after gta San Andreas came out and people thought the franchise should make a game in Italy after the move Italian job. But you know what that would make for a great game but won’t sell to the mass market.

People talk about all the good MS did for gaming (Achievements, cross platform saves, Improving Unified Online from what Sega Did).

But fukk them forever for making online multiplayer something you have to pay for. :pacspit:

Starting this DLC bullshyt because they chose to be cheap and DVDs for the 360. :pacspit:

Starfield won't move units like THAT on the PS5 either.

I knew once i saw those leaks from the trial about the Bethesda originally expecting to sell 10 million copies of starfield and Indiana jones on playstation it was only a matter of time.

People that ain’t in console wars (the big dawgs at microsoft who handle money) wasn’t gonna let consoles stop them from making that money.

Yet Netflix has positive free cash flow to the tune of $1.5 billion to $2 billion a quarter. HBO is a part of Max not it's entirety. HBO is a legacy media company retrofitted for streaming.

It could definitely work for Sony but they'd have to reconsider the kinds of games they make which Jim Ryan was in the process of before he met all that resistance and decided to retire. Stop making all these games that don't have much of a shelf life past the initial sell. Make content that is evergreen and draws in purchases long past the date of purchase. Fuse single player narrative games with live service elements.

As someone who bought xbl back in the day. It was much better when you had pay to play. Opening up the flood gates marginalized the experience.

At least back then you had to have at least something of an iq to hock up and play now online is filled with morons and mental midgets.

2022 was the year xbox could have reversed their fate and kept up with playstation and nintendo. It was still pretty much impossible to get a ps5 in 2022 and xbox jsut released halo (before that shoe dropped) and Forza, they had some momentum that year.

Then they decided to release no games and a bunch of controller colors for some reason. Even now with all these studios they have and aaaalll these games they are still on a really big gap between games.

Forza Motorsport even being the non-release that it was came out in October, the next big game is Hellblade 2 (lol) and that comes out in MAY. Thats 7 months between two insigniicant game releases again.

At least when sony has these long gaps in releases they come back with a big game that grabs attention. Microsoft is just a boat without a paddle
