Im gonna be a contrarian here. I think TLJ just goes to show JJ's talent. That he managed to shoehorn these random characters as the protagonists in Star Wars with no pushback is something in itself.
TLJ felt like a 2.5 hr reboot of the original. After reading about this Finn PAAG romance, was surprised that it wasn't the case. Yes the Asian lady can't act for shyt, but there was no chemistry or any semblance of romantic overtures between the two characters.
Rey too can't act but there was more there in her inquiries about Finn's status than that whole Finn PAAG shenanigans.
Good for Adam Driver hijacking Star Wars, this is his story now
People say subverting expectations was the theme, I think failure was the theme, sorta ties with Yoda's final lesson to Luke
They gotta shorten this shyt, 2.5 hours in a theater
we got other shyt to do
Disney's gotta good story in there somewhere. Ben Solo, hopelessly outnumbered rebels with Rey as the deus ex machina
