qui gon's exact words to anakin's mother were "I didn't come here to free slaves". well why not? what the fukk do you jedi do exactly? doesn't the opening crawl refer to them as guardians of peace?
imagine a cop goes to a bad neighborhood one day and he sees a mother and her child being used as slaves. shouldn't he feel compelled to do something about it? does it MATTER what the law of the land is?

I actually agree.
The one major flaw of the Jedi is that they let themselves become an agency of the Republic. From letting them dictate wgat they do to even fighting wars for them.
That was intentional, not bad writing. The Jedi were supposed to be seen as too attached. It's in every movie. The prequels START with Jedi being sent out to settle a fukking tax trade dispute. The second movie STARTS with Mace telling Palpatine the Jedi will not fight their wars for them and ends with....the Jedi leading the charge against the Seperatists.
That's why Yoda says they LOST at the end of that movie.
That was Palpatine's trap.
Qui-Gon /Watto, "I tried freeing your mother but Watto wouldn't have it". QuiGon /Padme didn't pursue it because that would've meant going against the Hutts in the name of the Republic, which they didn't want to do.
I fully agree that they should've come back like Luke and busted up thay slavery ring lightsabers swinging instead of bothering with tax disputes
