I actually agree.

The one major flaw of the Jedi is that they let themselves become an agency of the Republic. From letting them dictate wgat they do to even fighting wars for them.

That was intentional, not bad writing. The Jedi were supposed to be seen as too attached. It's in every movie. The prequels START with Jedi being sent out to settle a fukking tax trade dispute.

if the jedi were intended to be flawed from the start, then why were they portrayed as such a proud order in the OT?

Because flawed doesn't mean bad or evil, they were still the good guys and the only ones fighting to truly protect the citizens of the republic.

All heroes are flawed, so were the rebels and Han and Leia and Luke.

Yoda and Ben were in exile and the first thing Ben tells us is that the Jedi fell because his own student turned on him.

There were never set up as perfect because this was never Lord of the Rings where true pure and evil beings exist...

when obiwan is telling the story of the galactic empire to luke, he puts the onus squarely on vader. no mention of the jedi being responsible for their own downfall. no mention of their blindness or arrogance.

I always imagined a Jedi to be someone that's fully at peace in mind, body and spirit. compassion just kinda comes with the territory. the jedi in the PT don't behave like jedi.

"He is reckless"
"So was I, if you remember"

"I thought I could train him as well as Yoda, I was wrong"

"Do not underestimate the power of the Emperor"

They can be at peace and still be flawed.

obi wan is obviously referring to the time before he became a jedi. "Was I any different when your first taught me"

"I thought I could train him as well as Yoda, I was wrong"

it's never revealed in the OT why Vader turned. doesn't indicate that obiwan did anything suspicious, just that he couldn't get anakin to stick to the jedi gameplan.

"Do not underestimate the power of the Emperor"

yoda is warning luke about the emperor's power, that's it. either his brute power or his powers of seduction. I fail to see how it indicts yoda or the jedi.

The Jedi in the PT are more than just flawed. They are blind, arrogant and lack compassion. They are a far cry from the noble and proud order the OT had made them out to be.
