For anyone up on the books, is the plot coming from those?

Not officially, they decanonised them earlier this year.

But there is a lot of good material in them over the last 20-30 years and they have said they aren't opposed to taking pieces from the books that fit with this new timeline.

If I had to guess a potential storyline that has the most likelihood of becoming a reality in the movies, I'd say google Darth Caedus Wookipedia and

In a weird way the prequels were kind of a good thing because at least now we all have tempered expectations. obviously we all want this to be the best movie ever but could you imagine the hype this thing would be getting right now if it were truly the first new star wars move in 30 years? no movie could ever meet those expectations.

I mean look at how crazy the world went over PREQUELS.

Could you imagine how crazy we would have went over SEQUELS????

you forgot that George Lucas boo is a black woman. With George still being the producer, I doubt there was little chance of making him change it.

Any chance of these bad ass dudes possibly in it? Wiki had them listed as the most famous Sith lords and lists them as Darth Andeddu, Darth Revan, Darth Malak, Darth Malgus, Darth Ruin, and Darth Bane.

The dude 3rd from the right (it says Darth Malgus?) kinda looks like Darth Vader without the helmet, no?

If anyone is up on the books, what should someone read? Anything dope that's essential?

The Episode 7 villain potentially not being the ultimate villain is a good point, maybe it's just the apprentice. Or is stand alone but they introduce a hero to the dark side.

I dont understand the hate for the prequels if you a fan of the series and grew up on it...They were interesting,even PH seeing how Darth Vader was born and seeing how his kids came to be and seeing Yoda,Windu fight the Emperor was entertaining and interesting even if the movie story line was bland overrall....Prequels were only to tie the story into 4,5,6 I honestly never cared about the storylines in them individually...

I saw red Letter Media's video reviews on the prequels and that's what killed it for me

The trailer pretty much confirmed a lot of the rumors that have been posted on the internet: (I was gonna use the spoiler feature, but shyt, its all in the trailer)

-Boygea's character is some sort of AWOL Stormtrooper
-Daisy Ridley's character lives on a desert planet. Possibility Tattoine.
-The villain has a lightsaber with two blades on the side
-The Stormtroopers have new masks

Considering these are all true, I'd say most of the other spoilers that came from the same sources are true as well, which kinda kills my vibe because now I know that I know the entire plot of the movie a year in advance.

Depends man. I'd say the 9 books legacy of war if you want to see an epic continuation of the Skywalker story (40 years after episode 4/battle of Yavin), involving a new civil war, splitting the galaxy in two and Skywalkers against Skywalkers.

Or if you want to find out about those ancient sith (Bane, Revan) they have books specific to them. I was about 14 when I read it so it's a vague memory but Darth Bane rule of two is very good. He is the Sith who began the rule of two philosophy that we seen Palpatine use in the movies and destroys the old Sith order from the inside out. It's set 1000 years before the movies.

Most critically acclaimed series is the Thrawn Trilogy though, set 7 years after the movies

The stormtroopers from the original trilogy weren't clones. The clones from the prequels were all killed off and the Emperor started drafting actual people, which was the reason those stormtroopers were incompetent with lack of sufficient aim instead being the DNA of Jargo Fett.
