It's dumb to go exclusive when you trying to bounce back.
Square dumb for taking that Sony stimulus which probably didn't include that big of a up front check.
All square games should have been on every platform at launch, especially the heavy hitters and new IPS.
Capcom was showing them the blue print
They are following the 2012-2016 "Crapcom" business model to a T. Put enormous, unreachable sales expectations on one single tenpole franchise installment to make up for your unmitigated, repeated failures in every other business venture outside of that one established franchise. Lose billions in market valuation when that installment doesn't receive anywhere near the critical nor commercial success you needed in order to make up for the exorbitant development costs/time/marketing that went into producing it (RE6). Shamelessly take a quick Sony exclusivity windfall, delusionally thinking that'll make up for the loss of 10s of millions in install customer base (SFV).
Problem is unlike Capcom, SE engineers and programmers are garbage tier in comparison; while the former buckled down to make an industry eclipsing, in-house proprietary engine to help eschew those unsustainable development costs/production timelines (RE Engine), thereby ushering in an unprecedented turn of fortune for the company.... Square repeatedly fumbled with the garbage that is Crystal tools. The development of which was only necessitated in the first place because their own ineptitude at adapting to the industry standard that is Unreal Engine (see Last Remnant). A total ineptitude that is STILL ongoing; wondering why y'all haven't heard jack shyt about DQ XII since its initial announcement years ago? It's cause development has completely restarted on ANOTHER attempt at a custom, in-house engine, all on account of, you guessed! Square's complete fumbling and incompetence with the advance kits of Unreal 5 they've had over half a decade to try and figure out.

Pin all your hopes as a publicly traded company on cash grab gacha games and NFT metaverse chicanery cause of your own buffoonery brehs.
