No he didn't. You're thinking of Acid Rap which was his 2nd tape. His first was 10 day which only featured his crew. 10 Day built his buzz and Gambino featured him on his Royalty mixtape and took him on tour. He met Ab Soul and most of the other artists featured on Acid Rap through that tour.

Everyone running with the plant story keeps missing the fact that Acid Rap wasn't his debut.
Chance features for acid rap weren't even astounding, how does an ab soul feature turn you into a plant?

do you think he paid all the artists on it? himself... personally??
He has a well off family, was sponsored by youmedia and savemoney. You seem to think a label did it but what you people neglect to mention is ALL of chances music is free, so where does the label come in?

He can afford to drop music for free. His manager is a millionaire

Its a shame ppl shyt on Chiraq because it was one of the most original and inspired films to come out last year. He managed to make one of the best Shakespearean films to come on in years despite Chiraq having nothing to do with Shakespeare. It was a true art film and Spike at his best. People wanted Spike to make the typical, blunt and loud film he's known for. The reality is Blacks laugh at him for those films, and whites dont get it. When Spike makes normal films ppl dont see them. He gets shade thrown at him no matter what he does.

But the Oscars is what's holding Black actors/directors back.

How can you call this original with the Shakespeare influence so heavy throughout the film?

Its original because its a hip hop satire of topical events, adapted for from a greek play done almost entirely in iambic pentameter with a mix of ebonics. Spike managed to combine blaxploitation and shakespeare and made it seem natural. How many times has this been done? The fact we're comparing it Shakespeare speaks volumes since this had nothing to do with Shakespeare and its the closest thing we have to compare Chiraq to.

And I dislike most of Spike's movies and was complaining with the rest of yall when Chiraq's trailer came out.

Spike Lee didnt make chicago in chiraq. Chicago made chiraq into chiraq.

Chance's criticsm on the film is that its exploitive and the film isn't "saving lives".

Spike has a point that Chance's father works for the mayor and that he had a wealthy upbringing. Rather than focusing on the film. How bout he focuses some of his criticsm on his father and the mayor. They aren't doing shyt to save lives either and its their job.
