spielberg is ridiculous. hollywood needs to make a better effort and the quality of indie movies from the traditional side needs to return.

I really liked Bright for what it was. All those reviewers exposed themselves for trying it sound like it straight garbage. The title on some of the reviews were saying stuff like "Worse movie ever?" "Early candidate for worse movie of the year" crap like that. The movie wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. I want to see what they can do with a bigger budget.
The budget was big enough, it needs better writing and directing. I’m fascinated by the orcs and elves

IF Netflix wants Oscar contention, all it needs to do is meet the minimum requirements for theatrical release. If they do that, I don't have a problem with it. If they don't, then FUKK NO. Let them compete in the Emmys & Globes like every other Network produced movie. That's all to it. HBO, Showtime, Time Warner Turner Networks, Disney, and whoever the parent studios are for Hallmark & SyFy have been producing straight to TV movies for decades, so how is it any different from Netflix? Most of teh Netflix films are the straight-to-video films that cable stations have always had.

Why have special treatment for Netflix? If they are so huge, they can easily get a limited release for 1-2 weeks, or whatever the minimum is. How many great straight-to-video movies have you seen, and never even thought about Oscars?

And what happens when every studio pulls all of their content off Netflix and 75% of the people unsubscribe? No one will care then.

I don't get the " Everything on Netflix is trash" narrative.

I'm so far behind on critically acclaimed series at this pint it's not even funny. That's not even counting the guilty pleasure show's i love.

Those lil movies they've been dropping are entertaining, I'm not looking for Godfather from netflix. I'm looking for something to watch w my girl on a sunday afternoon. Plus there are maad black movies on their that they've financed or exclusively distributed so I'm appreciative.

it'd take me months to get through my Que at this point.

Im not mad at what hes saying per say because hes fighting for HIS team.

theyre always gonna have the most bread/most exposure versus the many smaller distributers who make money off THAT movies promotion where netflix is gonna make money no matter what whether anyone checks that flick or not. Netlfix gon use the oscars to promote NETFLIX not the film. Not their fault but i understand the precedent. Hbo and showtime flicks win emmys.

BUT... it is THEIR money to spend... and the oscars set the initial precedent for these movies winning noone even saw or spent any money on so idk...

Im sure hes somewhat concerned about thr current movie system with studios falling like dominos and netflix becoming the big go to. Its becoming much harder to make money from film so they gon do what they can to maintain power. The oscars is a huge promotional tool.

The risks for netflix arent the same. Im not mad at em for it tho cuz the system was fukked but i get an old man fighting a cloud for his ways.

Roma met the requirements though.
It was released to theaters before it premiered on Netflix and continued running in theaters after the streaming release date.

Ok, so Spielberg's position reeks of "old man yells at cloud"....but he's fighting for the theatrical experience. And for that, I'm totally with him.

He mad

And the irishman is gonna win some for sure and I’m positive he won’t say a god damn thing about one of the GOATS

Irishman should def bring home some...him and Marty are homies too, I remember reading about how Spielberg popped in during the filming and even ghost directed a scene.
