I agree with you about Lupe not being clear.. He's a show off with the word play and likes to make his rhymes puzzles to the point where it takes several listens to get one line..He definatly tries way too hard.. But that doesn't mean that he's not great at what he does imo...

I believe that's what makes SOME of his believers think that he's more lyrical. Because some can't initially decipher what he's saying they believe that he's more lyrical. I believe that you don't have to use arabesque wordplay to be an elite lyricist. Biggie saying "I can hear sweat trickling down your cheek, your heartbeat sound like Sasquatch feet...thundering shaking the concrete" to me is just as potent as some lyrical, myrical rapper that tries to run a lyrical clinic on a track but doesn't get their desired effect. Sometimes it's not what type of grammatical sorcery or how many polysyllabic words you use. Sometimes a great, lyrical verse consists of simple words that are put together in a way that potently smacks the listener.

"kicking boring raps, with metaphors is wack, all you motherfvckers need Nordic track!" - Canibus

"all the gimmicks, the wack lyrics, the shyt's depressing, pathetic...please forget it..." - Biggie

"Yo, too many songs, weak rhymes that's mad long. Make it brief Son, half short and twice strong" - GZA

He has used more flows than all of them, the absolute vastness of his subject matter, his ability to multi-syllable rhyme schemes, his metaphors. Yes you guys are blinded by nostalgia for Nas, and yes Nas is in the top 5 (dare I say, top 3) rappers of all time. But there is not a way in HELL that Nas could ever outrap Lupe. Nor could GZA or Rakim.

He probably has used more flows, but we're talking strictly lyricism. Nas MURDERS Lupe if you wanna bring other MC categories into the equation. Nas is arguably the best MC ever ( I believe he is). Lupe just ain't on that level.

The ability to tell a great story is part of being a great lyricist. Post ANYTHING from Lupe that comes even remotely near this:

I guess we'll just agree to disagree on this point..

I like Nas waaaay better than Lupe so there is no way I can make a passionate argument to defend him over the GOAT...

I think that Lupe is a wack c00n and all, and i think that IMO Nas is better, but this track :mjlol::russ::sadcam::dahell::mindblown:

That and Black Girl Lost 2 are the worst Nas tracks I ever heard, breh.

Lupe was an immense talent. But his best album doesn't match up to Nas' 4th or 5th best.

There is no relevant category in which Lupe is better than Nas.

Prodigy >>>>>>> Lupe

I'd take the cool over any nas album not named ill mastic or IWW...and I'm not even that find of illmatic, it's just too much of a staple to not list

That being said nas >>>>> lupe as an overall mc, lu got ALOT of nikkas beat as far as straight up lyrics go but he lacks in some key areas that will probably keep him 2nd tier overall.

I thought Food and Liquor was better than the Cool. The Cool had some questionable beat choices.

That being said, Illmatic, IWW, Stillmatic, Lost Tapes, LIG (and maybe Gods Son) >>>>>>>> Food and Liquor.
