No way Lupe is the most lyrical MC of all time. That's bullshyt. How is he more lyrical than Nas? Or a GZA? Or Rakim?

Because he jumps through more hoops to get from point A to point B than any of them...His degree of difficulty is higher than Nas and Rakim..He respects the intelligence and acumen of his listener more (even though most of them probably don't know wtf he's talking about)..Some of his entendres are 4 layers deep...

I don't think he's a better emcee than Nas, Rakim and GZA.. Because lyricism is only a part of what makes an emcee great...But lyricism is what Lupe does.. It's his whole niche...It's pretty fascinating how quick he is on his feet and how his mind works in his unwritten freestyles also (something I've never seen Nas really excel at)

i refuse to conform
The way to be, paradise like relaxing black, latino and anglo-saxon
Armani exchange the reins
Cash, Lost Tribe of Shabazz, free at last
Brand new whips to crash then we laugh in the iller path
The Villa house is for the crew, how we do
Trees for breakfast, dime sexes and Benz stretches
So many years of depression make me vision
The better living, type of place to raise kids in
Open they eyes to the lies history's told foul
But I'm as wise as the old owl, plus the Gold Child
Seeing things like I was controlling, click rolling
Tricking six digits on kicks and still holding
Trips to Paris, I civilized every savage
Gimme one shot I turn trife life to lavish
Political prisoner set free, stress free
No work release purple M3's and jet skis
Feel the wind breeze in West Indies
I make Coretta Scott-King mayor the cities and reverse themes to Willies
It sounds foul but every girl I meet to go downtown
I'd open every cell in Attica send em to Africa

nas rhyme schemes are no slouch also.

these the same fakkets critically acclaiming lyrics like "I ran like a cheetah"? :mjpls:

I used to be a huge Lupe fan... Still am actually but he ain't Nas. Lupe's wordplay is superior but that where it ends. Lupe is closer to a chitown Ras kass if anything.

Common can be compared to Nas tho:obama::obama:

Dude's last two albums don't say that. Lazers was absolute basura, and F&L2 has no replay value whatsoever. He spent that entire album getting tripped up over his own message.

Face it Wasalu can't go back to F&L1 and The Cool level. Where unlike 3 Stacks or even Nas, they can continue to put out quality work over the course of 20 some odd years.
you makin up shyt right now and tryin to hold Wasalu to a standard youre not holdin to naS. naS has one great album, IWW, illmatic, i am, nastrodamus, SD, HHID, and ****** are complete trash. IWW is a 4/5, while stillmatic, LIG, and GS are 3/5 at best. But because youre used to shyt like "I ran like a cheetah" and "mega cops" and "sellin loose cracks jack black smack back and the island is packed with rats black" you give him a pass when he gives more BS like that. Same shyt that if Lu wrote it you would ask if he fell the fukk off.

F&L II was crack... outside of that battle scars Lasers holdover

Sex with death, indulge in these women
Vision my own skeleton swimmin in eternal fire
Broads play with pentagrams in they vagina
Like the Exorcist, then they gave birth to my seeds

That's better than anything Lupe can ever think of.

I staunchly disagree with that premise. Listen to this track and the lyrical complexity:

The level of difficulty in crafting those verses and actually making it sound dope is very high, bro. I honestly never heard ANYTHING from Lupe as densely lyrical and still very CLEAR. And that's just one of many GZA tracks that I feel lyrically sh!ts on anything Lupe has. Lupe's brand of pseudo intellectual lyricism borders on contempt. Especially his new music. There's been plenty times that I listen to his music and I hear him emphasize words like he's trying to tell the listener "look, see how smart I am...did you catch that?".

Nas' throw away songs is better than any Lupe Fiasco album.

Lost Tapes > (insert Lupe Fiasco album)

GZA is the only rapper that can make Killah Priest look average on a track.

Gza just lacks energy in some of his later tracks

Well thats why I said Lu was more lyrical than Nas and Rakim.. I would put GZA in the same lane of elite lyricism as Lupe as far as degree if difficulty goes...

I agree with you about Lupe not being clear.. He's a show off with the word play and likes to make his rhymes puzzles to the point where it takes several listens to get one line..He definatly tries way too hard.. But that doesn't mean that he's not great at what he does imo...

Thing is he doesnt do it on every track. He knows he has a market for that... and feeds that market. While also feeding those that like shyt like "Strange Fruition" or "Unforgivable Youth" or those that feel shyt like "Hip Hop Saved My Life" sadly he excels at so much and nikkaz want him to focus on one genre of song.

I just sit back and be like :blessed:

He has used more flows than all of them, the absolute vastness of his subject matter, his ability to multi-syllable rhyme schemes, his metaphors. Yes you guys are blinded by nostalgia for Nas, and yes Nas is in the top 5 (dare I say, top 3) rappers of all time. But there is not a way in HELL that Nas could ever outrap Lupe. Nor could GZA or Rakim.
