Google Amazon are the competition.

Companies with the cloud/server infrastructures, software experience, user hardware/software, investments and money to leverage and compete beyond console gaming.

those are some of the only companies that could, organically, by nature of their investments, host and provide content on a global level, with enough proliferated user hardware/services to drive user (gaming) subscriptions beyond a gaming console and buy mindshare so you’d have to offer their service on other platforms.

Sony and Nintendo are not vertically integrated enough, beyond producing gaming consoles and software to compete on a non niche level like MSFT is aiming for.

which is gaming accessible on every device, beyond Xbox.

Imagine if, they were able to not only get people to subscribe to gamepass on Xbox, but surface tablets, then eventually, tvs, then if popular enough, fire sticks, rokus, google chromes, iPhones, android etc. much like Netflix is today.

That’s a whole lot of 15.99 game pass subs.

that’s how you get Nadala to spend almost 100 billion on 2 publishers.

just look at his latest interview. Phil signals who the real competition is.

which lines up with the quote from 2 years ago…

Xbox says Nintendo and Sony no longer main rivals - BBC News

Yes, that's why I say Sony and Nintendo compete with Xbox. Google and Amazon competes with Microsoft. Microsoft pulled up and entered gaming Tuesday.

Y’all are right in regards to specific wording. But I think y’all are looking at it wrong.

contrast that tweet with the statement regarding Bethesda games:

Xbox boss Phil Spencer gives the clearest answer yet regarding Bethesda exclusivity

“So obviously I can’t sit here and say ‘every Bethesda game is exclusive,’ because we know that’s not true – there’s contractual obligations that we’re going see through as we always do in every one of these instances,” Spencer said after being asked about exclusivity by Bethesda VP of marketing Pete Hines. “We have games that exist on other platforms and we’re going to go support those games on the platforms they’re on; there’s communities of players, we love those communities and we’ll continue to invest in them.”

“And even in the future there might be things that have either contractual things or legacy on different platforms that we’ll go do,” Spencer continued. “But if you’re an Xbox customer, the thing I want you to know is this is about delivering great exclusive games for you that ship on platforms where Game Pass exists. And that’s our goal, that’s why we’re doing this, that’s the root of this partnership that we’re building, and the creative capability we will be able to bring to market for our Xbox customers is going to be the best it’s ever been for Xbox after we’re done here.”

this statement made it clear that anything other than legacy agreements or games would be exclusive to game pass.

this tweet is not as definitive. It’s says they will honor contracts AND their desire to keep on COD on PlayStation.

No way in hell they spent 70 billion to keep games on PlayStation. They paid less for Besthesda and those games aren't coming to Sony

Maybe whatever games were currently in development before they were bought out will drop on PlayStation but once that's done COD will be MS exclusive

All this under contract talk :mjlol:

CoD is never not going to be mutliplat, not after this round of contracts or the next, that would be the dumbest move in the history of gaming. You'll get Xbox exclusives and/or GP early access, etc.

Y'all got to stop getting gassed off these acquisitions. You don't pay $70B for a company with the idea of narrowing the availability of one of its major assets.

I know its entertaining to go back and forth but a lot of you are delusional.

Is anyone really serious in thinking after a near 70 billion acquisition M$ is going to share those games with Sony?:dahell:

Some of y’all should just idk buy both systems. That’s what I’m doing :smugbiden:
Exactly. they’re not paying 70b so those games will remain multiplatform. It defeats the whole purpose and might as well have saved their money. I’m still not buying an Xbox because I was never into cod anyway.

And they will be fine with that. There's just going to be gaming TVs and streaming boxes that run Gamepass. Why continue to pay the overhead and lose money on making and selling hardware when they have the resources to make game streaming a reality?

the games can still be multiplat, but they'll be on Gamepass day one
I seriously doubt It. All these purchases they’re making is to boost Gamepass and make it the only place to play these games on console, giving people options especially on PlayStation doesn’t make sense.

They still make a lot of money from third party publishers on their system and the world is nowhere near ready for streaming only gaming boxes. Consoles still have a future

Why wouldn't they it's a Win Win for Microsoft they can make digital and Physical sales on Playstation and bring in more Gamepass subscribers. Microsoft ain't that stupid to make it exclusive to only Xbox consoles. Especially if it's a physical and digital seller on Sony Consoles.
