Sony needs a good studio that can make western rugs.
They have nothing to compete with Bethesda on that front.
MS is forcing an entire gaming audience to their platform because there is no alternative for those kind of wrpg experiences they'll be offering.

This has been one of xbox saving grace, they basically carried the WRPG and Western themed games market on their back as far as console gaming goes. It just so happened it really popped, so much so that Japan is still trying to infuse western style into it's gaming (forspoken, FF16)
