Have you watched 'Being Mary Jane", the new TV series with Gabrielle Union?

Her character is very successful, but her family members are a mess. They don't have jobs, so she supports them financially. In the first episode / pilot, he brother actually went to her job to demand for $500 so that he could buy his daughter a gift. The other brother sells weed.

Yeah, I've seen pieces of it but not all of it. I doubt it's for me though.

Actually, in the rest of my post you quoted, I clarified that more than anything else, it's all about great writing/casting the right characters.

And that trumps race

The brother didn't goto her job he was at the the house when he asked for the money just had to correct that part. The show is ok but there are a lot of stereotypes but how many shows aren't

I love my people to death but there is literally nothing on TV in 2013 with a majority black cast thats quality. Those Tyler Perry sitcoms on TBS are :snoop:
Tyler Perry is flat out....

Honestly, we have to show there's demand for it. Two of my girls work for large tv conglomerates, one in programming (she vets shows) and basically any majority black show gets the bushes firstly because they feel they can't attract a strong enough and wide enough audience to make money on it and secondly, she says they are often sent in with poor writing and underdeveloped - this is the reason all the black shows are on cable and pretty much suck

I believe this nikkas want shyt on tv but then won't support it knowing that the higher ups not trying to put out ethnic shows that don't do numbers. That's shyt might slide with white shows for a minute cause they feel they can get some white eyeballs but with our shows them shyts better be smoking from the jump or else. All you have to do is look at black movies like red tails, rosewood, and see how they do to see what the problem is. It's like we want the shows on tv just so you can have the option to not watch them like we usually do but while it should be like that it's not realistic at this point in time.

Good Black shows, written and produced by blacks. Ya should support.

Throw a few dollars to their Indiegog/kickstarter campaigns, it's quality stuff and combats most of the nonsense that's on tv.

No one here's actually given good reasons why House of Payne and other Tyler Perry shows are bad. No logical reasons.

It's a damn shame that Cosby, Living Single, and Fresh Prince reruns are better written and acted than any of the current black sitcoms of today :snoop:

I as watching Different World the other day and could only help but note that compared to something like Tyler Perry's c00ntastic television hour, it looked like fukking Shakespeare. The first couple seasons of The Game (before they moved to BET) were cool but its fallen ALL the way off. Really the only show on television with a black leading character that's even somewhat respectable is Scandal, and even thats got Kerry Washington playing whore to a Cac:shaq2:
