And my question remains, why is this energy only being extended to the NBA? If the basis is that live sports returning is a distraction, why aren’t NFL & MLB players being pressed to boycott?

That’s what makes this idea flimsy to me. If the NBA was the only show in town, then I could absolutely see the significant impact. But it’s not. Most American sport fans will not give a shyt about basketball being cancelled if the NFL, college football, MLB & NHL are all playing which they seem intent on doing.

If those players don’t sit out too then what’s the point?

Well the MLB/NHL players aren't playing yet because of different reasons entirely. They aren't majority african-american so if there was some players who didn't want to play because of george floyd, there's not as many. In the NBA's case you got over 200 players threatening not to play and they seem to be more like minded in general, the NBA's "brotherhood" is a bit stronger.

The NFL players just dont seem to care. College players don't have any power at all, although there seems to be college STUDENTS that are showing concern and may actually get some things done.

From what I understand, MLB players are pushing back mainly because they don’t want to take paycuts for this season. And I read that the NHL is supposed to open training camp sometime next month.

What I’m trying to say is if NBA players sit out but sports fans still have multiple other options for live sports on TV, including those that are already bigger than the NBA, doesn’t that greatly reduce its potential impact? Now if no one else besides the NBA comes back & they sit out, then yeah that’s gonna be major. But if not, I feel like that’s a legitimate question.

Well they are controlling what they can control. You may be right, but I'm sure that's not what's on the players minds.

Plus we can't discount the fact that a good amount of players don't want to play because of reasons that have nothing to do with george floyd, such as Joe Ingles (covid), Tatum (injury risk)

I wish dudes like Kyrie, Pat Beverley and Dwight Howard would just be real and say I don’t really want to sit in a hotel room at Disney for a couple of months. I want to start my vacation early. I hate these conveniently woke dudes who hit you with a couple of post for a couple of weeks and go back to regularly scheduled programming. When we seen this movie a hundred times. What they do kneel for a couple of games, NFL throw a couple of millions at a few black fundraisers as an tax write-off and throw Jay-Z the bag to come on TV to say we pass kneeling. Nothing changed unarmed black people still going killed without consequence. Systematic racism is rooted into the soul of America. This country was built on slave labor and still to this because the 13th amendment. Canceling not gonna change nothing. We need reform and it don’t fall on Athletes. It comes from the people we put in offices and lobbyists. So all these dudes who coming out of nowhere making little post, that’s cool it brings awareness to the cause. But I want to see you do it when everything die down and it’s not the hottest thing on the streets. I seen Lebron, Shannon Sharpe and Jalen Rose post about racism when it wasn’t the hot thing to do. Kyrie, Pat and Dwight all got the money and status to bring real change. Do like Lebron and Jalen Rose built a charter school for underprivileged children because we all know public school are historically segregated by the quality of education and resources versus public schools in predominantly white neighborhoods. Lebron and Jalen Rose teamed up to protect the black vote, when people have suppressed the black vote forever. That’s what’s going bring change for black people. Even the little stuff like Lebron putting black people around him in positions of power changes things. A lot of these dudes gonna drop a couple of post for a month then go back to posting about their latest endorsement and be back ready to play for the next season. All I ask is don’t run game on me I’m not one of these average negroes who get excited because you went a protest and shouted no justice no peace for a few hours or posted blackout Tuesday and black lives matter on your Instagram. Russell Westbrook making a documentary about the black Wall Street. That’s what I like to see educating ignorant people on black history, not this non-sense.
That’s all it is with those dudes..

Kyrie and Dwight are cowards they hiding behind the protests..

Well they are controlling what they can control. You may be right, but I'm sure that's not what's on the players minds.

It's 2020, if a person wants to be distracted they are gonna be distracted. Way too many options, even without any sports. I think people are looking at the NBA because it is seen as a black league and they are up first. There are plenty of valid reasons to sit out and I can't blame any player for doing that if that's what they feel is best. Whether it's health, the cause, a combo of the two, yes your money (although that may actually do more harm than good) I can't knock it. However, if anyone is doing that because they think the world will stop, they are mistaken. People will argue back and forth about it, like they are now, for a few weeks and then move on to CFB and NFL training camp. You really think this will hurt these billionaire owners, most of which made said billions outside of basketball, more than it will hurt the players? If anything black folks should be getting more money and white folk need to be sacrficing.

Also, I think some have an inaccurate understanding of history. Ali didn't just decide to stop boxing...he was banned. Brown, Russell, Jabbar etc. had his back, were down for the cause, and still kept on playing/acting. I will also say it's ironic and a little confusing that people have been bemoaning Kaep, and to a lesser degree, Adbul-Rauf and Hodges being blackballed or black players not being given a fair shake, yet now they want players to take themselves out of the game.

You realize that these guys DONT have to play right?

Kyrie already mentioned the bubble thing iirc.

Guys are basically playing for money that’s it.

There’s a pandemic, and civil unrest going on, I’m betting that most of these guys don’t wanna play in some empty gym exhibition tournament.

It’s all fun and games until one of these guys catches the virus and gets sick because of it.

I’m just over the whole hop on the social activism wave when it’s trendy after a few months the post dry up and everything back to normal. I need to see action outside a few post on social media. I want you put charter schools in the inner city, I want you to start up tuition fund for blacks. Take some black people off the street who want to learn and trained them up, get high paying jobs. Build up the communities it’s time for real change enough social media barking. I get why people get excited when they see all the pro black stuff on social media and people waking up and learning. I’m with all and proud people are waking, wanting to learning the real black history not the whitewash stuff they teach public schools. I get happy seeing people uncover black history. But like I said I seen this movie too many times with Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Tamar Rice & ETC. Nothing changes I just seen an unarmed black man get on the TV again and I’m 100% sure I’m see another one any day now. I don’t know where y’all got this narrative that I’m upset because I want basketball back. I barely watch TV as it is. I just work, read books, work out and spend time with my family. I don’t care about the NBA coming back. But I understand the platform the NBA can provide to these players to keep bring to the cause. One thing I did learn from all the prior situation dealing with racial tension is never let the opposers forget what they did. If the NBA and the players can use their platform to keep reminding people who shield themselves and claim racism don’t exist. I’m all for it, every game I want them to remind the world we need justice for Breonna Taylor, we need justice for George Floyd, we need justice for Ahmaud Arbery. Football is king and NFL and College Football take up most of the attention. So the whole distraction argument is flawed. It’s not a distraction we can chew gum and walk at the same time. That’s what I always remind people who bring up black on black crime we can focus on two things at once, it’s not hard.
What are you doing for black people and community

say what you got to say in a couple sentences fam

The NBA is going to have a bigger problem on their hands when players start testing positive again for covid when they start playing games in Orlando. I don't blame players not wanting to risk their health and play in an area most logical people would consider a hot spot for rising covid infections and deaths.

'Who am I?': Craig Hodges makes a call to action for...

When asked how he would respond to the NBA returning amid continued concerns surrounding COVID-19, Hodges spelled out how he would wield his power if he were playing today.

“It ain’t even about corona,” Hodges said. “I ain’t playing because you just killed my brother. And now with this groundswell of support, ain’t none of us supposed to be playing. Why play? How am I going to go play in Atlanta when you just killed brother (Ahmaud) Arbery? How am I going to go play in Minnesota when you just killed brother Floyd? I’m not going to play. And if more of us take that position, we will see some definite policy nuances that reflect what we bring to the table. It’s one of those things. We’ve got the power to do something about it. Now will we?”

Community, Hodges said, must come before sport.

Few things should come before sport for a professional athlete. God and family is pretty much it. WE ARE FAMILY. And some of us are starving out here. Some of us are being murdered out here.

These brothas have a chance to make a statement. Will they choose to shut up and dribble? :jbhmm:
