for a beat battle it really boils down to showmanship and familiarity, especially if both are known for hits.

We can all agree Swizz is one hell of a hype man.

If Tim played some random shyt that could be argued is better production wise, but the crowd didn't know it, he'd lose to some basic shyt a crowd knew

I wish people would stop relying on the showmanship excuse. swizz could've been sitting the whole time, and the results would still be the same.

swizz is an era-defining producer, while timbaland doesn't have any meaningful hip-hop beats.

even his signature collabos with jay-z like "big pimpin" & the others, all got bounced out the way quick when swizz played his signature jay-z collabs.
and that was the peak for timbaland, while swizz still had more bags to go into like the DMX & ruff ryder chit.

this battle wasn't even close.

How's it an excuse? Look at the Blaze battle, Just more or less was just fukking around and didn't take it seriously, whereas Swizz was hyping the shyt out of his shyt. From what I remember in the thread, most people thought Swizz won (myself included) on his showmanship because Just Blaze more or less did what you said, he just sat his ass around and thought he could win strictly off his hits.

Exactly.

Really wasn't a beat battle. It was a DJ battle with them randomly playing hits from both producers. Swizz nor Timbaland didn't even need to be present.

People were actually dancing and singing along to the Missy joints. Those and the Jay joints clearly got the biggest response from Tim's set. It was at that point where Tim was winning. Then they both started with some throwaways and then Swizz came with "Down Bottom" and "Ruff Ryders Anthem" and the energy shifted in his favor. Tim was looking like Swizz was looking at the beginning of the battle, which is why it was a draw IMO. And the crowd didn't really decide a winner because they left it open ended. You're supposed to get crowd participation at the end by having them make noise for who they think won.

Swizz isn't an era defining producer. Dude was an it producer in '99 and by 2000, dude's sound quickly faded. Going into '99, Swizz had:

Money, Cash, Hoes
Banned From TV
Jigga My nikka
Down Bottom
What Ya'll Want
Gotta Man
Love Is Blind
Spit These Bars

By 2000, he had "Memph Bleek Is", and maybe "Twisted Heat" and "WWIII". Tim was still flourishing and Swizz was trying to tap into another sound.

theres nothing timeless about that album.

nothing of masterpiece quality.

youre a mobb deep fan. I get it.
I wasn’t talking bout Murda Muzik as a album I was saying adrenaline as a song is a masterpiece lol.
what’s ya poison, the realest, allustrious, adrenaline, quiet storm without lil Kim? regardless of what our opinions on Murda Muzik may be, there is no way in anytime is Swizz better then havoc or making his sound outdated escpecially in havocs prime upto 2001

Why would Timbo use so many RnB joints? With that said he fukked up his chances with that and also Swizz has a better style for this kind of thing.

I wonder who would be able to beat him in this kind of thing. Maybe Havoc, Alchemest, Kanye or Madlib or something.
