So, why in the world would Vince book Steve Austin to job to Brock with no build on Raw?

The storyline was suppose to be Flair playing Vince in a flair vs Austin storyline

so I believe he would of helped Brock win or with Eddy help who was feuding with Austin at the time

I think KOTR was set for Austin vs Eddy W flair abs Benoit involved to I think

Am I the only one who remembers Austin being sort of washed by this time period?
Nope. Idk why people in here are saying Brock v Austin in the KOTR finals would've been the right move. Austin wasn't as popular as RVD was at the time. He wasn't even top 5.

Nah you aint the only one. Invasion destroyed almost all of his momentum.

Dude got a lukewarm pop for stunning Vince which was unheard-of.
Both Austin and Rock were getting stale and not drawing like they used to.

Which is why Vince panicked and brought Nash, Hall and Hogan back.

Austin being in the KOTR at all would have been a bad move... he was bigger than that by then, and had already been KOTR. There would have been no point in him even being in it.

Exactly a bunch of revisionist shyt in here :russ:

Anyone who watched around that time knows Austin was washed and fell off hard. Rock was a much bigger star at that time. RVD was more popular as well so were others.

Damn :picard: you right, that’s as quiet as I ever remember a crowd being for him coming out AND delivering a stunner. That’s wild.

I guess maybe this foreshadowed what become a mainstay booking style that kind of ruined WWE.

Even... It doesn't make any damn sense. The King of the Ring 2002 card was dreadful. That would of been headline with HHH vs. Undertaker W/ Rock & Austin vs. Flair & Hogan vs Angle!?

I guess a large reason for that is they couldn't get Hogan vs. Flair.

Flair vs. Eddie was a solid gem that came out of some weird circumstances.

Even then... Why wasn't Brock vs. Austin looked as a headlining match up within the KOTR tournament.

This shyt still makes no sense to me.

Brock vs. Chris Jericho
Austin vs. RVD
Brock vs Austin

Probably be the GOAT KOTR tournament if Vince had some damn patience.

Like whyyyyyyyy...
Not sure but it was all just hype to get to Rock vs Brock at Summerslam anyway.

Kinda downplaying the fact that McMahon was basically the babyface and Austin was reppin' the heel side at the time...

this was the night after Survivor Series when Austin went back babyface...

Even this I don't agree with.

Brock vs Austin should have been THE Match. Even wait til WM if they had to (obv they didn't know of how bad Austin's injuries were getting).

Austin was the most dominant superstar of that era. You build Brock up to finally take on Bowser (Austin) as THE moment of Brock's career, not Rock, not Hogan...Austin. That should have been a slow build but WWE's creative was obviously not good during this period.
If he was the dominant, he would of headlined at Mania vs Hogan. The WWF changed in 2000 and really everything that mattered had the Rock involved...Jericho blowing up in the main event...Austin coming back in a WM main event...making Brock Lesnar a star...making Angle count to end 2000..Cripple H fell off huge in 2002 without Rock to spin off...put Hogan on the map and here we are in 2022, Brock Lesnar is still their go to guy after Rock made the kid. Austin had a great 98 and 99 but the money stuff went through the Rock.

Brock wasn't even over till he went over Taker at HIAC two months after Summerslam 02. So him going over Austin and Rock was a pure gamble just like it was in 98 to have Goldberg go over everybody.

To pop a rating. Ratings started to decline as early as 2002. Vince cared more about ratings than PPV.
Yeah..too much Cripple H..they went away from having Rock and Austin as solid guys heading for WM 18 even though Rock vs Hiogan eclipsed their so called main event.
