Trying to understand the other side. Like, they ain't design the play to get Kroft matched up on Reddikk. You call the play in the huddle, you don't know how the defense gonna line up. You don't get to choose what coverage or pressure scheme the defense gonna run

Any play where the tackle is covered and the edge is way out wide of the TE you got three realistic options. TE block him, RB block him or you leave him unblocked and get it out quick. And the design worked. Reddikk beat Kroft but had to go so far outside to do it the ball should've been out before he got there. Play is designed for Purdy to rip it soon as he hit the back of his drop. Or, the primary ain't open, you got to climb in the pocket knowing the pressure from the right was coming from way outside. But primary was wide open he just held the ball a second too long
Yeah, this play going badly was more on Purdy (fair mistake given he's a 7th round rookie) than Kyle. The play call was actually a success, Aiyuk beat his man, play was going to go for a big gain. Either we don't run any play action for the entire game or we accept that fluke injury. It is what it is.

That and Trey’s gotta show that he can consistently hit the “layup” throws. In a very small sample size, his career completion percentage is at 55%

That ain’t gonna cut it

Agree with this in full. Trey got to relax and just play. He looked good last year at times. Hurry up against Seattle. The Texans game once he got into the flow and settled down. But this offense give you so many easy throws, there's no excuse to be below 65%

He also got to learn how to protect himself. Play he got hurt on this year it's like he tried to give himself up but too late and he got folded up. He'd have been better off just lowering his shoulder at that point. But also should've realized there's nothing there, just go down earlier, take no gain or a short loss. But, these are mostly things he can learn, he just gotta stay healthy enough to get the reps and experience he need

Nah, Reddikk plays on the right side. Philly does not move him around like we move around Bosa. This is on Kyle, you don’t put a back up tight end that didn’t dress last week to block a player with 17 sacks one on one especially with the weakness or right line has shown against top pass rushers.

Yep, this is my take, the level of competition at NDSU inflated Trey's rushing capabilities and Kyle might have bought a lemon. When it comes to rushing lanes, the QB draws are supposed to make the rushing decisions simpler, he wasn't even being asked to do complex RPOs yet. If he can't do QB draws then he can't really do any rushing.

The way Shanahan is using Trey rushing is pretty much identical to the way Buffalo used Josh Allen rushing in his rookie year. I think Trey is only averaging like 2 more rushes a game at the same point in his career as Josh, which makes sense given how much more rushing Trey did in college than Josh. Buffalo actually increased Josh's rushing totals during the back half of his rookie career, so if we follow that plan then Kyle should be rushing Trey more next year. Using a mobile QB's legs is designed to slow the game down for the QB and let them get comfortable in the offense. People seem to want Kyle to use the Brock playbook and get rid of the designed runs, which is going to be a tougher system for a QB who had 1/3 of his production come from rushing in college.

I been saying, they tried taking the same approach Buffalo did with Allen. I ain't a big fan of designed QB runs but it's something he did a ton of in college and the idea is to get him in the flow of the game and make defenses account for that. If the defense got to play 11 on 11 it make the throws a lot easier for the inexperienced QB

Unfortunately the evidence suggest Trey ain't near as durable as Allen. Dude is built like a tank so you'd think he can take some hits, maybe it's just bad luck but they gonna have to take a different approach from now on

So what's the solution? You can't realistically block him with a OL in that alignment. You gonna have Kittle stay in and pass block all day? Let him build up a head of steam and have CMC try and pick him up? Keep 7 or 8 blockers in on every pass play?

You can check Kroft's pass blocking grades, he literally one of the best pass blocking TEs in the league in recent years. That's the only reason he on the roster

This is what bothers me. We have a very good blocking TE in Charlie Weorner that we don't even usr like that. Tyler is really like a secondary receiver type.

If a pass that requires a seven step drop you absolutely keep kittle in on that play. This was a long developing play action pass you can understand keeping kittle in on those plays and it wouldn’t give any the defense any early warning either. Purdy and Lance’s injuries are directly on Kyle

Purdy was late on the pass. If he threw the ball on time he probably wouldn't have gotten injured. It's not on Kyle, it's just a freak injury.
