Trey ran for more yards in his one college season than Culpepper ran in his entire 3 year college career. About 1/3 of Trey's production came from running the ball, and not just scramble situations, vast majority were designed runs. We were supposed to get a guy who can execute designed runs for big yards. I don't know how we're defining running QB, but if Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen and Daniel Jones are running QBs then so is Trey. They all have designed runs built into their offense. 4.5 40, run the damn ball. We didn't spend 3 first round picks to get a guy who can only extend plays and pick up a first down every now and then. We didn't draft Mac Jones. Trey's max potential includes 700+ rushing yards per season. If his potential is limited at what Brock showed us this season, then he's a bust. The purpose of having Trey is having a QB that can run. Not a running QB. It's a difference. You don't see too many 6'5 running QBs out there. He's a Dante Culpepper type. Play breaks down he can scramble, run and get the first or more. Not just take the sack like Jimmy G. You run the offense like he did Purdy and you'll see his max potential. You run him all the damn time then you'll see what we have been seeing as such. It's failure.
Thing is Kyle is a moron. This is a kid that hasn't played a lot of high level football. First thing that popped in my head was they would do the same offense as Jimmy G. Run the ball damn near 40 times with play action. This would have helped him gain more confidence and adjust to the speed of the game. But no it's RPO, Pistol and dumb ass QB draws. smdh.
Many people are saying the same thing I'm saying about the play calling. The comment below on this video is damn near fukking verbatim what I said.

The problem I had with Lance this season was the play calling - I thought that there were too many designed runs. Last year, 2nd half vs the Texans, they let him sling the rock and he was phenomenal. That's what I want to see more of. One thing I saw in the tape here that I LOVE is his ability to avoid pressure by stepping up in the pocket.
You keep talking about what he did in colllege. We've seen plenty of times what a player does in college, he may not be able to replicate at the same level in the NFL. In the NFL he's more of a Dante Culpeper. It's a different world in the NFL vs college.Trey ran for more yards in his one college season than Culpepper ran in his entire 3 year college career. Every single coach and player in the NFL has immense respect for Kyle and considered to be an offensive genius. If Trey isn't living up to his potential I doubt it's Kyle's fault, the guy who was one play away from winning the SB with Jimmy G and just made a 7th round rookie QB an OROY finalist. Same guy who turned Matt Ryan into an MVP and RG3 into an OROY. Don't know what Trey has done or proved in the league to make anyone think he's more valuable than Kyle.
So Trey's running at 4.3 yards a carry isn't working in the NFL but him passing in the pocket and extending plays with his 55% completion rate will? You keep talking about what he did in colllege. Bottom line running him isn't working in the NFL. But him passing in the pocket and extending plays will
Kyle is an idiot that needs to let an OC call the plays.
No chemistry with WRs. He hasn't played much. Don't understand the confusion. So Trey's running at 4.3 yards a carry isn't working in the NFL but him passing in the pocket and extending plays with his 55% completion rate will?
Explain that one to me, breh
The confusion is because in your previous post, to me it sounded like you were implying that Trey can improve on his passing the more he plays but he can't improve on his runningNo chemistry with WRs. He hasn't played much. Don't understand the confusion.
What big runs has he had, which had you like damn vs any other running QB? When he runs shyt is so predictable that the defense is like. He looks mad awkard in those designed runs. The times he was under duress, he looked much better running.
Man, if this is what Kyle is thinking then I can see why he doesn't change anything. The confusion is because in your previous post, to me it sounded like you were implying that Trey can improve on his passing the more he plays but he can't improve on his running
I think Trey can improve in both areas the more he plays. Right now, he's clearly a better scrambler than designed runner. But the ironic thing is that right now he's more likely to convert a 3rd and short situation with his legs on designed runs than with his arm on passing plays. That's partly why Kyle calls more runs for him than Jimmy/Brock. But the more Trey plays, the more he'll develop instincts as a passer and a runner
Bottom line- If Trey's gonna come close to hitting his ceiling, running the ball has to be a part of his game. Take that away and you're lowering his ceiling imo
Like I said before. You're a fukking retard if you have designed runs for a QB with the staple of running backs the Niners have.Man, if this is what Kyle is thinking then I can see why he doesn't change anything.
But there's very distinct difference in trying to improve passing and trying to improve designed runs....the latter has a way bigger risk of injury. So much so that now we have 2 season ending injuries to our QB that have come from him running way too much while showing he has no clue how to avoid contact and run safely.
I much prefer to watch Trey improve his passing and scrambling than running. For him to "learn" he might need to get hit into CTE and nobody wants that
