Nah Neptunes stuff did not age well. Its appeal at the time was that it was retro not futuristic. Timbo’s 90s stuff was futuristic. Some of that stuff was like stuff nikkas would be listening to in the Blade Runner universe.

Neptunes were going for an arcade Collecovision type sound.

You not even talking rational. you might as well just say. "their sound ain't my cup of tea but i can't front on the run they had"

"B Grade" producers don't produce strings of classic hits like they did, along with a lot of great and classic non singles/songs

The Neptunes are among the elite. They are some of the greatest producers in music.

WRONG

I ACTUALLY LIKE NEPTUNES SOUND

ITS LIKE SAYING ISIAH THOMAS WASNT A GREAT BASKETBALL PLAYER WHO WON CHAMPIONSHIPS JUST BECAUSE HE NOT TOP TIER ALA MJ OR KOBE

U CONFUSING GREATNESS WIT TOP TIER

IN THE EARLY 2000S NEPTUNES HAD HITS WHICH BECAME CLASSIX WIT AGE.. BUT IN REAL TIME, WE WERE COMPARING THEM TO THE LIKES OF TIMBALAND, WARREN G, PETE ROCK, ETC. AND THE GENERAL CONSENSUS WAS THAT THEIR BEATS SOUNDED CHEAP IN COMPARISON

A GOOD COMP FOR NEPTUNES WOULD BE MANNIE FRESH.. MANNIE ALSO WAS REGARDED AS SOUNDIN CHEAP IN REAL TIME, BUT TURNS OUT HE WAS MAKIN LEGENDARY SHIIT ALA NEPTUNES.. WE JUST DIDNT KNOW AT THE TIME BECAUSE OF HOW MANY INSTANT CLASSIX HIP HOP WAS PUMPIN OUT IN THAT ERA

There is nothing wrong about what I said.

really? doesn't seem like you do, lol

No it's not. The Neptunes are top tier. Just because you like Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, and DJ Quik's sound more, doesn't take away from The Neptunes brilliance

The Neptunes are in the upper echelon of producers in music. They sit at the table with all of the fellow big dog producers in music.

Nah, it's you who are confused. lmao

I was there in the 2000's, you can't rewrite history with me. I ain't one of these young nikkas. LOL at comparing The Neptunes to Warren G.

Their sound was heavily formulaic and as far as the musicality it was basic(Pharrell is in love with M 7ths) but that made it so good. They captured the sound of an era. We'll look back on the trap era and say the exact same thing when we're far enough removed from being programmed by the sounds that dominate rap production now.

THESE BEAT IS TRASH AS fukk
TO BE TRUTHFULLY HONEST....

LUDA JUST RIPPED THE fukk
OUT OF IT WITH HIS
UNORTHODOX APPROACH.

Which producer(s) did you prefer from this era? Luda went crazy on this track, but this song would not be the same without their unorthodox production.

Just a reminder that I've always hated most of the Neptunes beats. Plus, there was a period in which they gave everyone the same beat lol.

A lot of those Neptune beats ain’t hitting like they were back then and that’s ok. We should talk about one particular beat that will never get old. I know we can’t like Mystikal any more but this song here is so fire. My favorite Mystikal song ever.. the beat is so great too..

It sounds like New Orleans. I’ve never been there but it sounds like I could still hear it being blasted there in 2024.

Bands play it or at least used to. It’s second line music.
