So Tyler Perry's last three movies were flops. Have people finally had enough?

Temptations Cost 20 And He Made 51 Milli Sounds Like A Win To Me

BoxOffice.com has the budget at 37million. And that's not taking into account marketing and distribution dollars.

And Peeples Suffered From Horrible Release Date, I Honestly Didnt Even Know That Movie Was Out, And That Suppose To Be One Of His Less c00nish Movies.

The reason that you didn't hear about Peeples is because there were no marketing dollars behind it. Test audience saw the thing and were like :stopitslime:

So the studio didn't really push it.

However, Temptation wasn't even close to a flop.

The movie made a little over 50 million and cost 37 million to make according to BoxOffice.com. And that's not including marketing dollars and distribution costs. Oz the Great and Powerful for example had a $280,000,000 budget on paper... but really it was $350,000,000 because of $70,000,000 in marketing costs.

So if anything the Tyler Perry movie probably came close to breaking even. The movie was a flop.

Madea movies cost 1/2 that and make 2x more

you are kidding yourself if you really think Temptation cost 37 million to make. Madea movies don't even cost that much and you think a film without Madea is gonna be 2 to 3 times as much to make? :usure:

edit: 15 million to make bruh....where the hell you get 37 milli? :what:

Yea, he co-produced Peeples, doesn't really count as a Tyler Perry movie.

Even if we take the lower figure and add 5 million for marketing, Temptation still earned 10 million+ right? Not a flop. But Box Office Mojo (reliable) has it at 51.7, so, he made closer to 30 million without DVD/Bluray sales.

:umad: You mad as hell.

Total Budget: $37,000,000
BoxOffice® — Tyler Perry's Temptation

Also if you look at other movies for comparison....Total Budget does not include marketing dollars.

Did you not see the cars, planes, exotic locations, and overall higher production quality of Temptations? It made a Madea movie look like a bootleg VHS flick.

And no, I'm not kidding you

Oh and I'll make 1 correction. The total amount for the Temptation budget WITH marketing dollars was 37 million. So the take on that movie was 14 million profit. Which isn't bad, but isn't great either. Especially since distribution takes a good chunk of that money away.

The budget was 37 million. That's marketing included. I made the mistake. So the movie made $14 million. Distribution eats into that. As well as other things.

You think Hollywood studios are in the business of making 10 million dollars a movie? :bryan:

Movies that make $10 million dollars usually end up on DVD. Which is where Mr. Perry is headed soon.

And Peeples? Come on Breh :comeon: The official name of the movie is "Tyler Perry PRESENTS Peeples"

Tyler Perry Presents Peeples - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia :krs:

The Jackie Robinson movie '42' which has been out for 5 weeks almost beat it.

Here goes a whole article on it

Number Crunch: Why Tyler Perry can't leave Madea behind —

You're really going to eyeball shyt and come up with your own budget? :heh:

20 million was what I read, so a total budget with marketing of 51 million is an easy win for him.

I don't care for his movies too much, but I am glad that he is starting to give other black writers/directors some shine AND he does employ lots of us. Still doesn't take away from his shytty writing, but he does give back and his movies do have "decent" messages (Even though it's pretty vanilla and horribly written)

It's a gift and a curse. Spike Lee can't even get his movies funded in Hollywood anymore. Can never find distribution for his ideas. Why? Because they are black movies with messages. So he has to do it himself and go the Indie route.

So ya, Tyler Perry is doing big things and starting to include others but it's still shytty concepts.

Unless you have an established black franchise like "Best Man" or "Friday" you are not getting a movie made if you are not Tyler Perry or backed by Tyler Perry.

Nobody in Hollywood is trying to give money to anyone else.
