Great wrestler but garbage on the mic. he was not big enough to be a non talking monster like lesner so he got a bunch of dumb gimmicks.

Keep it real, Shelton was better on the mic than Ziggler, Reigns, Harper, Early Batista and Brock Lesnar. Any deficiencies he had could have been improved and corrected with time and practice. But they never gave him the chance.... I wonder why... :mjpls:

The thing is "whiteface" as you call it has only been used in comedic instances with no real history or racism or hatred attached to it. The same cannot be said for Blackface as that was specially done to demean and antagonize black people.

Blame racist white generations who were reckless with their actions that created this PC line everyone has to tip toe around.

okay but should everyone just continue to feed into it and not apply any rational thought? should all situations be judged the same?

do YOU think x-pac did it to "demean and antagonize" black people? or do you think he was just trying to be comedic?

This so much. Swagger is garbage on the mic and was given a World Title. Benjamin had the tools to be a star but WWE refused to do anything with him.

Well who are you do decide when its cool to use blackface or not? You are not black, by your own admission, it is not your call. You've already said you don't have an issue with Whiteface, good that IS something you can make the call on, but you don't speak for black people or what black people should and should not be offended by. If EVERY or even MOST black people take issue with something like that, you should be able to respect the fact that even if you don't see it, they see something clearly wrong with this...

And I'm not saying this to poke at you, I'm really wanting you to understand the other side of this perspective.

i feel you.

you right.

it's hard (impossible) for me to look at things from the black perspective. i imagine growin up you always had to kinda be on your guard around white ppl... not really knowin who was cool and who wasn't. so i imagine it's a lot harder for you to take shyt as jokes when it's comin from someone you aren't entirely sure is on the level.

but even though i have never been the target of racism, it doesn't mean i can't smell it when it's in the air. i'm not stupid. i know when a muthafukka is being racist. i might not feel the effects of it but it makes me feel uncomfortable just the same.

the DX skit did not make me feel uncomfortable. not in the slightest. i laughed really hard at that shyt. does that make me insensitive? i dunno, i don't really care. there's nothing i could do about it. that was my gut reaction. either i really am a racist prick or i'm sorry i just didn't feel that hint of racism in the air.

but if i had felt that black people as a whole were being belittled, or that mark henry was being belittled BECAUSE he was black... i most definitely wouldn't have laughed. like most people, i probably would have been appalled.

but again, that is NOT the vibe i got from that segment. not at all. to me it came off like harmless fun.

i guess you just gotta go with your gut feeling. if you're black and you found that shyt offensive, of course you have that prerogative and i'm not trying to say you don't. but if you were one of the many whose first initial gut response was to LAUGH, then that means somewhere deep down you sensed it was harmless too. and if that's the case don't look for a reason to feel offended or else you're gonna drive yourself crazy.

:ehh:this fees nice. it's not often you could have a civil discussion about race on the coli.

i could see the thing with the bananas.

but i was talkin about the video where they mocked the nation.

i remember that shyt like it was yesterday. shyt was hysterical. EVERYONE thought it was hysterical. i really don't think there was any racist intent. they put on blackface cause the nation was black, i really can't see there being anything more to it than that.

should i feel offended as a white person when eddie murphy and dave chapelle do "whiteface"? lol of course not. shyt is funny.

Good grief. So many of you white folks truly are oblivious as fukk.

Based on Triple H's history and his reputation, there were racist undertones to the segment. Especially when you think back to the infamous pre-Wrestlemania promo he did about Booker T talking about his "nappy hair" and how wrestlers like him were just good for dancing and amusement.

Last night,...
Triple h shoot worked trolled us,...

All behind the premise booker was the go to WCW guy.
who was jobbed out in another long term racist wwe history based angle like Tony atlas confronts hulk hogan.
that we are suppose to not have any continuity we remember.
all under the guise of it is not supposed to be good.

What's rational about not knowing or even attempting to understand your country's history? If anything, its irrational to think something that is an established negative racial connotation is ok to use in certain situations. Its really just an example of their egos overtaking rational thought. In what world did they think doing blackface was cool or funny? Only in the fictional world of WWE.

Also, I notice you are shifting the argument to X-Pac instead of HHH who also did this TWICE to The Rock, why? I personally don't think X-Pac is racist but he is a known follower, he'll go along with his crew on just about anything to get a rise out of people, have you heard Scott Hall and Kevin Nash's stories about him? And of course its the Kliq members who actually did the blackface because they know they could get away with it, if not, why didn't they ALL do it? Why was it just them?

Tell me you can't see a lil of where I'm coming from here...:mjpls:

There are plenty of arguments for WWE's racism but I dont think Shelton is it

I've watched him cut a promo live, he's just not good on the mic. He has that AJ Styles annoying southern accent syndrome and it just doesnt work for him like it did for Bradshaw/SCSA/etc

The difference between him and Ziggler is that Benjamin was a midcarder on the roster at a time when the WWE was stacked with talent. The rest of those guys you listed have the size that Vince obsesses over

I definitely thought Benjamin could have gotten over with the Mama's boy gimmick though

Now if you wanna talk about talented black midcarders who get passed over, lets talk about Kofi Kingston, MVP and David Otunga (mic wise at least) :mjpls:

It's always "show me the racism. Educate me. I want to understand your plight :noah:"

Then you explain and it's "well that doesn't seem like racism to me :ld:"

:mindblown:

Maybe it's irresponsible on mah part but when it comes to "educatin" people, specifically white people, on why shyt is racist I honestly don't eam bother wit it a lot of da time unless it's absolutely necessary.

I'll just :aicmon::camby: and kim.

It's 2015. Why am I havin to explain why white people doin blackface is offensive? And why it's historical context has FAR MORE pain & venom associated wit it than Eddie Murphy pretendin to be a white guy in a movie?

Again, dat combo of absolute obliviousness and wantin to be da oppressor & share in equal victimization all at da same time.

It obviously aint all of em but dat shyt can just be str8 :snooze: status sometimes.
