Well who are you do decide when its cool to use blackface or not? You are not black, by your own admission, it is not your call. You've already said you don't have an issue with Whiteface, good that IS something you can make the call on, but you don't speak for black people or what black people should and should not be offended by. If EVERY or even MOST black people take issue with something like that, you should be able to respect the fact that even if you don't see it, they see something clearly wrong with this...
And I'm not saying this to poke at you, I'm really wanting you to understand the other side of this perspective.
i feel you.
you right.
it's hard (impossible) for me to look at things from the black perspective. i imagine growin up you always had to kinda be on your guard around white ppl... not really knowin who was cool and who wasn't. so i imagine it's a lot harder for you to take shyt as jokes when it's comin from someone you aren't entirely sure is on the level.
but even though i have never been the target of racism, it doesn't mean i can't smell it when it's in the air. i'm not stupid. i know when a muthafukka is being racist. i might not feel the effects of it but it makes me feel uncomfortable just the same.
the DX skit did not make me feel uncomfortable. not in the slightest. i laughed really hard at that shyt. does that make me insensitive? i dunno, i don't really care. there's nothing i could do about it. that was my gut reaction. either i really am a racist prick or i'm sorry i just didn't feel that hint of racism in the air.
but if i had felt that black people as a whole were being belittled, or that mark henry was being belittled BECAUSE he was black... i most definitely wouldn't have laughed. like most people, i probably would have been appalled.
but again, that is NOT the vibe i got from that segment. not at all. to me it came off like harmless fun.
i guess you just gotta go with your gut feeling. if you're black and you found that shyt offensive, of course you have that prerogative and i'm not trying to say you don't. but if you were one of the many whose first initial gut response was to LAUGH, then that means somewhere deep down you sensed it was harmless too. and if that's the case don't look for a reason to feel offended or else you're gonna drive yourself crazy.
this fees nice. it's not often you could have a civil discussion about race on the coli.
