i feel you.
you right.
it's hard (impossible) for me to look at things from the black perspective. i imagine growin up you always had to kinda be on your guard around white ppl... not really knowin who was cool and who wasn't. so i imagine it's a lot harder for you to take shyt as jokes when it's comin from someone you aren't entirely sure is on the level.
Good. Then you should be able to understand when I or any other black person calls something out as racism its not always ducktales. We KNOW what we are talking about, we experience it everyday. Typically white people deny racism claims but they don't know what to look for or understand real racism when they see it. If you don't want to be grouped into that ignorant bunch, take our words for it.
but even though i have never been the target of racism, it doesn't mean i can't smell it when it's in the air. i'm not stupid. i know when a muthafukka is being racist. i might not feel the effects of it but it makes me feel uncomfortable just the same.
That's the thing tho... if you've never experienced it, how do you actually know? If you've never experienced it, you won't know what to look for. Black people in American live through it on a constant basis, if we say something is racist or even questionable, there shouldn't be a debate if it is or isn't.
the DX skit did not make me feel uncomfortable. not in the slightest. i laughed really hard at that shyt. does that make me insensitive? i dunno, i don't really care. there's nothing i could do about it. that was my gut reaction. either i really am a racist prick or i'm sorry i just didn't feel that hint of racism in the air.
Nobody is mad at you for laughing, I honestly didn't think it was racist per se when I first saw it in itself but I notice how the Nation never really got a reply back to that and HHH seems to have a penchant for ODing on racial stuff, yeah in hindsight, you see the racial overtones.
but if i had felt that black people as a whole were being belittled, or that mark henry was being belittled BECAUSE he was black... i most definitely wouldn't have laughed. like most people, i probably would have been appalled.
but again, that is NOT the vibe i got from that segment. not at all. to me it came off like harmless fun.
Once again, its a culture gap. To white people making a racial jab here and there is all jokes and fun, for black people its a hardship we've had to deal with for our entire existence in this country. Its not funny to us but we aren't the ones that can "not think" about race either.
i guess you just gotta go with your gut feeling. if you're black and you found that shyt offensive, of course you have that prerogative and i'm not trying to say you don't. but if you were one of the many whose first initial gut response was to LAUGH, then that means somewhere deep down you sensed it was harmless too. and if that's the case don't look for a reason to feel offended or else you're gonna drive yourself crazy.
this fees nice. it's not often you could have a civil discussion about race on the coli.
Nobody looks to be offended, everyone has their own prerogative to what bothers them and what doesn't. The difference is that white culture doesn't seem to hold any standards when it comes to taking shots at someone else's race, culture or ethnicity expect when it comes to their own.
Tell me, do you get offended when we call you CACs?
