So the longshoremen are about to go on strike on the East and Gulf coasts.

No they do not. The average salaries vary based on factors like job type, experience, and location. For many ILA members, salaries typically range from $60k to over $100k annually, depending on the specific roles and overtime hours worked. Some highly skilled or senior workers might earn more, potentially reaching the $200,000 mark with extreme overtime, but that is not the average salary for the average worker.

The excerpt that keeps being spammed on social media is irrelevant and misleading to what is currently happening, because it is about the ILWU, not the ILA, which is currently striking. Even then, it comes with caveats.

In my line of work I deal with them.. Yes they fukkin do pull down over 200k with overtime… if you want to be technical then the majority make well over $150k with overtime.. and yes some of the ones who make a base salary of 60k.. it’s the OT that push them over

I know this for a fact breh

but the capacity for automation says they actually aren't worth that :yeshrug:

i'm sorry that's the reality; but that's the reality. all they're doing is making the case to automate them away faster

There is no capacity for automation at this time. Will it happen eventually? Sure. Should they get the biggest bag possible before then because of the nature of their job? Absolutely

if China can do it, we can do it better :yeshrug:

there's more people that work at Arby's, than work as longshoremen. but no one in here would give a fukk if Arby's went out of business

if longshoremen are gonna threaten our economy because a 50% raise on 150k a year "isn't enough", they can fukkin go :yeshrug:
You know there are people the longshoremen work for who get paid way more than 150k for not doing any long shoring

let me know when those people can be replaced with robots
They have been able to be replaced by robots for like a decade at this point, that's why for the last decade they have been saying "low skill" jobs are around the corner from being automated.
