I'm no church goer, but the big churches in Detroit do all those things.man so many schools could have been built, so many tuitions/scholarships payed, so many roofs over heads

It's an example of black people supporting a black business collectively and that business then giving back to the community in various ways. Good churches have great community outreach in the form of field trips for kids. Tutors for kids. Food drives for the homeless. Rec centers.
