What Sony needs to do is just shrink down their previous gen consoles into a handheld and keep it moving. With ARM/x86 taking over everything this might be achievable in the near future.

If the Vita was just a handheld PS3 it would have been a major success. Deciding that companies need to exclusively develop for a "secondary" device is a recipe for disaster. Nintendo saw this script put to them on their console business and then the Switch was born.

So Sony finally saw the recent PS4 sales numbers in Japan compared to the Switch’s and was like.

Sooner or later Sony is going to have to think of a portable fix. Especially if they want to keep the Japanese market. Nintendo is already catching up to them with a 1 year and half realease. I'm betting that the switch will either be caught up or surpass PS4 by the end of the year in japan. Hybrid is the way to go if you can get the technology right.
