:pachaha: You really thought you would be able to use PS3 controllers on the PS4?

I'm not even a gamer like that but why would they do that if they trying to sale those new fancy state of the art controllers? If they did that, people would just take the controller that comes with the console and use their old PS3 as the 2nd controller.

That would be nice if it did, , but business wise it wouldn't be smart on their part. I sure a nice chunk of their revenue is selling $40 controllers
not some, MOST of their revenue comes form accessories and game licenses.

i'll put it to you this way, i work for a company that sales the main product between $4000 and $6000. depending on the model.

the accessories can range from $150 to $1000. depending on which accessorie you get. now granted this isnt for a game. but still. they dont even care if we dont get the right paperwork for the main thing that costs all that money. as long as we get the person on it. they will have to pay out for accessories for a very very very long time. thats where our bread and butter comes from. thats the game all these manufacturers play. especially when you spend a ton of $$ on making each console. that console is probalby worth $800 to $1200. if they sell it for $500 or $600. they will lose money. so why stay in business? cause the accessories and licenses is where the money is at.

Thats because they went from 2 buttons to 6 buttons. The only thing different about PS4 controller is a share button, which isn't mandatory to play games and a touchpad that probably won't be used in most games or at least won't be necessary to play the game. Its like adding bullsh!t just so they could have a valid reason for you not to use the old controller. Hell the only reason they got away with it from PS2 to PS3 was because they went wireless. Then they tried to take the rumble out of it. SMH. No one should complain if a company is being innovative. But when a good portion of your hardware is the same sh!t don't try to slap a new coat of paint on it and tell me its something new.

True. But what if they changed the design but kept the same functions

Not that that would make a difference in gameplay, but ppl wouldn't complain bc they'd feel like they are getting something new. Lol

man, you are really trying your hardest not to get this, arent you?

gaming has changed. the biggest games in the world right now are downloaded for a dollar, and played on an iphone.

with this controller, sony is CLEARLY trying to make inroads to that market. wisely, i might add.

now, the next angry birds can be ported to the ps4 over night, because it has a touch screen on its controller. and if you buy it on your ps4, you can, hopefully, be able to download it on your phone, and play there. or your vita. or your tablet.

they are going in a new direction.

again,

they are going in a new direction. :deadhorse:

youre right, the first 10-15 games might not make use of that touch pad.

but is the whole cycle of the next round of console development supposed to be held up, because you dont want to spend 40 dollars on an OPTIONAL second controller?

and once again, because you dodged it the first time:

PS4 Will Feature a New Controller, Multi-User Log Ins and More - Rumor

the controllers seem to be developed to allow multiple users to sign into the network at once, to earn trophies.

so,
ill break this down one last time so mods can close this thread and you can move on to something else you don't understand.

1) the only reason you would buy a second (optional) controller, would be to play a game with a friend, locally.

2) the only way that friend is going to be able to play coop games with you (in this new generation of consoles) is by using the new controller to log into the network independently of you.
Bruh...they can make all the inroads they want, tell me why I can't play a Street Fighter game with my old controller, simply because they GIVE you a controller with a touchpad on it? This is all about the EXTRA controller. What if one of my boys wants to play some multiplayer game with me on launch day just to give it a whirl. Something that can run 2 player vs or co-op? Why can't that controller connect to the new system? I could understand if you absolutely could NOT play the game without a touchscreen. If this was Angry Bird Wars or something ridiculous....okay fine. But if dude comes over to play FIFA, why can't we just use a controller that does everything that we need it to do? What if Microsoft's controllers don't have any sort of touchpad functionality? Do you think those multiplatform games are going to vary all that much if any? For the majority of them its highly unlikely. No one is saying take away the touch pad or any other feature it may have. If you want to buy it, then fine. For the games that utilize those features, you can do that if you want to. If you don't have it you can't play those games, but for sports games, racing games, and a slew of other games that don't need a damn touch pad, why not just allow the PS3 controllers that we have to be functional.

Now you are trying your best JUST to win an argument. Your reasoning for why we MUST have another controller is because we need it to sign into multiple accounts? So there was no other way to implement that without THIS controller? :comeon: What if someone thats playing with me didn't want trophies and all that and just wanted to play the damn game? This is your justification for why the controller is needed? No....you were just hoping to "win" an argument on the internet and you thought that was enough to do it, but thats BS.

But to make on thing clear: accounts won't be locked or tied into controllers themselves, new users will simply be prompted to sign in to their account once a pad is synced to the console.
That is from the article you linked. The controller isn't actually doing anything special. When the PS4 recognizes that another controller is present it prompts the user to sign in to account. Hell, that should have been possible on the PS3.

can you use PS2 controllers natively ona PS3? no.
can you use Xbox controllers natively on an Xbox 360? no.
why would PS3 controllers work on a non-backwards comparable PS4?
Thats definitely a fair point. But in those cases you would have needed to add ports to the console in order to do that. This isn't the case here. Now if it comes out that this PS3 is using some new kind of wireless tech and adding PS3 functionality would have been something they had to physically addon thereby adding to the price, I'd understand them not allowing PS3 controller functionality. But to remove it simply because the new controllers have a touchpad and a share button that some games and some people may use at some point strikes me as a bit ridiculous and clearly a money grab.

SMH. Dude, the controller went wireless. It wasn't as if they had a way to attach the PS2 controller to the PS3 without adding costs. All I'm asking hear is to be able to use some shyt I already have. You think they are syncing the wireless signals of the PS4 controller in some new way that the PS3 controller couldn't use? Stop making idiotic excuses. There is no reason not to be able to use a PS3 controller on a PS4 other than trying to squeeze more cash out of you.

The controllers are completely different
It's a fact that the old ones aren't compatible with the PS4

New controller = new console

Don't want new controller? Don't get new console

But you really should quit bytching about something as tiny as having to buy new controllers to use on your new console breh :mjpls:

You're acting like its industry standard to have next gen consoles use their predecessors controller. It's never been the case nor will it be. You want controllers to use on the next console? Cop a wii controller & a wii u. Otherwise cop the PS4 like we all know you will & keep it movin :mjpls:

Nah....I don't have to keep it movin. Thats the beauty of giving your opinion on a message board. Just because they never did it before doesn't mean it shouldn't be done in this case. They didn't have touchpads on controllers before. But Sony did that after Nintendo dropped that Wii U. Nintendo allows the Wii controllers on the Wii U.......Sony said "Fukk that I wants the cash......" and so the PS3 controller can't be used on the PS4.....simply because they never did that in the past. Is that your justification for it?
