Cena getting dominated was unheard of. It was huge.

WWE guys are "stars" because they have extended, long term, mainstream exposure. The majority of the AEW talent does not have this for a few reasons.

1. The roster is mostly made up of PWG alum who prior to this had little to no TV exposure, and if they did, it was in smaller tier promotions like MLW and TNA for most of the past 5-6 years. The bigger names they have are former WWE guys or Kenny/Bucks, who gained a following over years with ROH/NJPW/Internet promotion leading to some kind of quasi-"mainstream" notoriety.

2. AEW is new and hasn't had the chance to establish any of these younger, unknown guys on a wider platform. In theory that should be a big selling point: Completely fresh talent that aren't tainted by lame WWE runs that can break out at any time.

So far they haven't done much work to make any of those non-Elite/WWE guys look like stars, so that's something they'll need to improve and focus on immediately going forward and not letting the promotion get bogged down with Jericho's stable vs Cody's stable.

They still need recognizable names to jump over. Star power is not something u can just sweep under tha rug n be like “meh

Yeah, but WWE had to build their stars too. They were just able to do it while other stars were on top.

I personally dont want AEW to just leech off former WWE talent liked TNA tried to do. That's a recipe for failure. Make your own stars. If They can make it interesting long enough to build up their stars then they'll be ok.

I really think AEW, needs to make their own stars as well, but find a way to get them popular with children without being all Disney, WWE PG Era. I wonder if there’s a way AEW could have their own attitude era of sorts in today’s sensitive culture. I noticed they aren’t afraid to use words like b*stard on their programming.

Wwe star power is way bigger than AEW. This is not an overstatement.

Brock lesnar
Rey Mysterio
Aj styles
Jeff hardy
Randy Orton
Daniel bryan

A whole bunch more that would automatically be game changers if they hypothetically jumped ship tomorrow.

Tna was hoisting around Christian back in 05 like he was a grand prize when dude wasn't even considered a top 10 guy on the roster by the wwe.

Aew would be chewing at the bit just to get a midcarder guy on the roster.

Just a talking point of the few that Vince still has brain washed. Before I'm called a mark, before last night I had never watched a young bucks or Kenny Omega match but I do know it wasn't that long ago that they were some of the most sought after talent in the business but now AEW lacks star power. They have Jericho who is a fukking legend and still entertaining but they have no stars. Argument doesn't hold any weight IMO. And like you said, since Cena who the fukk has WWE developed that has star power
Punk & DB were the last legit stars they “created”.
:yeshrug:
And you could argue they were already stars before WWE based on their independent work.

They thought Roman was gonna be next but they forced it too much.

being in sports illustrated doesn't mean much in 2019. :comeon:

outside of Jericho there's a huge drop off. I'll be glad when the rest of yall come back down to earth and stop trying to elevate AEW to the equivalent to WWE right now.

the point is, these guys are big deals.

and as for the rest of the roster, they assembled an all-star team, plucking wrestlers out of other feds.
essentially the same thing the WWE did for their current roster, and they got their dudes from the same pools that AEW snatched people up from.
so how is AEW suffering from a lack of star power, but the WWE isn't??
if you look at both rosters on paper, it reads like they just had an expansion draft with each other. the WWE just has a lot more guys on payroll, but that cancels out, seeing how the WWE has to split the roster up in 3 or 5 different ways.

is there any logic to the idea that AEW doesn't have any stars??

or is this just some chit that's automatically said because vince has people brain-trained?
They really don't but their writing, stage sets and wrestling matches are better. If any of those stars left, WWE would lose a lot of money which is why they're trying to buy whoever makes bank even if they will suck.

Wwe has guys that are 6'4 250 not 160 meth head markkks
Well yea, I feel like I can't take guys like the young bucks serious when even my nephew has more muscle mass than them.

But on the flipside, there's plenty of indie talent out there for them to shop around for. I also think some of those NXT guys including some E guys will join AEW once there contracts are up. I know Xavier Woods will, wouldn't be shocked if Big E follows suit.

Jericho is a star, the rest of these people have a cult following in wrestling. Be realistic. Cody would be the next person up due to lineage.

hate to break it to yall, but Jericho isn't this big star. hes more of a wrestling cult following guy himself.

yall putting extra emphasis on him because he was a top 10 guy in the better half of the attitude era 20 years ago, but he never drew sticks, and was a major flop as WWE undisputed champion.

the elite are actual draws and its gonna hurt a lot of people when I say this, but omega & the bucks have already surpassed him.

and truth be told, moxley was their biggest pickup in terms of current name value.

But on the flip side most of them 6’4 250 guys end looking like jokes.... especially when they get washed by guys the same size as the Bucks and smaller ...... IE Chad Gable and Daniel Bryan.

The only real big guys that come off MOST OF THE TIME LEGIT are Braun, Brock and Roman

Ascension and Corbin look like 6ft + Meth heads:yeshrug:

Either this becoming a moot point

it’s better for them with this fan base to build their own guys up to be stars so years later we saying “AEW guys”

vs

Them having all these former WWE STARS and no credit is really ever given to them cuz it’s not their homegrown star.
