Yeah man being in that bracket where you make too much to be government assisted and not rich enough to be "rich" sucks but it is a blessing to complain about shyt like that instead of your next meal or a roof over your head. I tell cheapskate wife all the time we are Upper Middle Class whether she likes it or not and that in some ways it is harder on us since we really get no breaks tax wise.

But again, we know we're :blessed: so I'm not complaining one bit.

It's a blessing and a curse. I can't even allow myself to be known as a parent to my youngest daughter from my first marriage because she wouldn't qualify for student loans if they see me and my wife's income.

It's crazy...you have to either be dirt poor or very rich in order to be ok in this country. While we do have the luxury of saying we're doing alright being in our income bracket, we still have so many things pulling at us.

I know I will stop claiming my sons when they turn 16 so that they can file independent on that FAFSA . Gotta find ways to cheat the system like everyone else....:smugfavre:

Well, of course, but a family making 100k doesn't experience the same financial pains as one making 35k a year. In our present economy, 400k is a fair point to define our middle class.
This is profoundly ridiculous.

So much so, that I think a separate thread should be made so you can ATTEMPT to intelligibly defend it :heh:

This shyt is crazy man.

I vacationed in San Fran and had a great convo with this older woman whose an educator and raised her kids mostly on her to attend Berkley and other schools. She basically said that we have to be dynamic and find slick ways to get by like she did.

It's crazy man....

Its a win for 2013 but an L for our future

When are we actually gonna pay for any of this????

Not until after the next mid-terms is honestly what I believe. Obama is saying that he's not putting SS and Medicare on the table. Those guys right now in the House are not having it. So then what?

We're going to end up with bandaid after bandaid until the Democrats get control of the House again and do what they should have done when they had two years to do it. Even then it won't be what it should be.

Absent a widespread shift in public opinion, or some political maneuvering we're in a bad spot. If only we had the maturity Canada showed back they had this problem.

They gonna bulk up entitlements and kick the can just like they have for decades

And the people buying or debt don't give a shyt about midterm elections... The MOMENT or debt becomes unattractive e are ducked, and neither pastry is doing shyt to brace us for that impending inevitability

I know....my thing is...we're already getting killed on a local level and seeing its ineffectiveness. It leads me to believe that an increase on the federal level will follow suit.

Ah you live in the glorious state of ny as well the people won't understand

I'm about to head out and I probably won't be on until tomorrow so I can't have the full argument with you. But half the time you're screaming and I'm not sure where you're going. Furthermore, the last time we did anything, ANYTHING about our debt was when Democrats were in power. As far as working on the debt, you're right, both sides have ignored it. That's how politics works worldwide, that's why nothing is done until we reach a breaking point. I'm saying that if Dems gain control again and don't do anything then they're fukked. It will be on their heads. Because this issue is NOT going away now. If there's anything Ron Paul did right it was to make this a sticking point. You do realize that according to recent polling 71% of Americans believe that fixing the debt problem should be among President Obama's top 3 priorities? Let me know when we had that in the past.

So how can you say they won't do anything now, when no one gave a shyt about the issue until about 4 years ago? It wasn't on the agenda. Furthermore, didn't they try that shytty ass grand bargain last year before the Tea Party said fukk that? Deal with the now. The past may be the prologue, but it does not mean it will necessarily have substantial bearing on the present.
