In Colombia it is insanely easy to get an investment visa. Just have to say that you will open a business here and invest $10K. There are burgeoning design, manufacturing, and IT industries here and a large talent pool to select from. I would suggest this for anyone looking to move and wanting to be an entrepreneur.

Standard of living* here is the same as living in the U.S. You won't be missing anything if you lived in a major city like Medellin, Bogota, Cartagena.

I'm an open book, anything y'all wanna know just ask.

EDIT: *Standard of loving is pretty high here too, but I don't think this is the thread for that.

@DrBanneker I was side eyeing your thread at first but I continued to read it and you had some pretty good info there :ehh:. I really need to connect with expats in my age range because everyone I've spoken to thus far have been older and retirees. So they all advised me to wait until I retire so that I can have a stable flow of income. It's not bad advice but

I have a meeting scheduled later this year in Ghana to meet with a group of AA expats to discuss their experience.

@Cynic and @LShedged where are you located? Do you have family there? What was the toughest part of expatriating for you?

I’m in Europe atm, I had a few cousins here but didn’t meet them or know about them till I was already established. We barely speak now because I like to keep them at arms length.

The toughest part is culture shock and if you prefer a cohesive life then you’ll have to adjust because the level of conformity here is HIGH.

Can you elaborate on this? Very curious

I think the greatest thing holding most of us back is fear of the unknown. We are to comfortable with our little jobs and way of life.

I'm actually thinking of taking like a 6 months sabbatical from work and try living a month here a month there and seeing if I can manage before taking the plunge

Don’t see myself being comfortable outside of an English-speaking nation or a world-class European country. At the same time, I don’t want to be around cacs long-term, a luxury I enjoy where I currently live—but I wanna live in peace.

That moving shyt is a luxury only cacs really have. There are very few places for black Americans out here to live right. I’ll fight it out here before I’d move to a shythole unless there’s good business opportunity.

Experiment before you settle down because if you have a wifey and kids it’s over you’ll be stuck until you get old, only live once
