I personally am still not planning on rolling out anywhere but upping this old thread for those in that frame of mind. Remember, this right wing shyt is global and grass is not always greener somewhere else.
I work out here in Japan. The family is in Atlanta. I spoke to a lawyer on Tuesday about moving out here.
Because I work here under my SOFA, I don’t travel with a work or tourist visa. I also leave the country every 75 days. Because I am US based and the way our contract is set up, I can’t have my family as dependents on my visa.
Japan is slowly opening up to immigration. They have a business manager visa. That’s what I would get my Wife on and my children would be her dependents.
You need a business ID, bus account with 35K USD, an office and proof of business. I’m thinking we do real estate and she could rent out our spot to me when I work.
I think this is the move but the lawyer wants 5K. 3 for the visa process and 2 for the business set up.
I could do the process myself, but there’s no guarantee I would get all the paperwork correct. Japan is notoriously stupid when it comes to paperwork. I’ll probably decide by the end of next month. We won’t move out here until June though.
America has a lot going for itself. I tell people and my Wife all the time these are the “great” things about America:
1)
The culture is yours if you’re American. When you emigrate, you are a foreigner. Even in Belize, I’m a foreigner who gets treated differently.
2)
Economic mobility. I’m a high school graduate born from immigrant parents making six figures. Name 10 countries where that is even possible.
3)
Language. You don’t realize how important language is until you move to a country where you don’t speak the local language.
4)
Low corruption. This is relative of course. Locally, I can start a business and be up and running with no issues and within a decent time in the States. Go start you a business in Latin America or SEA. Red tape is crazy.
If you can handle those things, you can live anyway. America is cool but the world offers so much more if you are capable of making the money. Digital nomads and remote workers should consider Mexico. Especially if you’re single. Once you get a taste of foreign life, it’s hard to come back.
