wasnt Luke only goin to be more powerful than Vader only if he turned to the darkside?

that was what Vader wanted him to believe.
a person who is Force Sensitive cannot become more powerful by using a different side of the Force, but they can master different aspects of the Force to greater extents over time.

there are other Force users besides the Jedi and the Sith. it's not all Light Side/Dark Side. the Force has a wide spectrum of manifestations. Jason Solo (son of Han and Leia) bounced around the galaxy for 5 years and studied many different Force arts, then came back and had all the other Jedi like :ooh:

Darth Caedus was the Sith title he adopted. it didn't make him any more powerful. he had the same abilities as Jason that he had as Caedus.

Duuuuuvaaaaal!!
If you read any of the prequel books, or the most recent book on Plagueis, you'll know that Obi-Wan was literally a vessel of the force. He gave himself over to it completely. Perhaps more than any other character. And the force was all about restoring the balance to itself after Plagueis/Palps created an imbalance.
So the Force would've used Obi-wan in any way possible to restore balance. And it did.

That astral projection ghost shyt was only something a few high level masters could do... It basically allows them to live on as individuals after death, which does make them powerful because they aren't limited by mortality anymore. The movies are inconsistent cause of Lucas's dumb ass, but as I remember, Qui-gon claimed to have discovered that technique, and then passed it down to Obi-wan, although somehow Yoda and Anakin seem to be able to do it as well.

examples?

Obi-Wan vs Maul
Obi-Wan vs Greivous
Obi-Wan vs Anakin
Obi-Wan vs Vader

Obi should've taken an L in all of these battles, but he surrendered himself to the force and allowed it to manipulate his body and skills. To use him as a tool to do its bidding.
Then finally versus Vader he surrendered his life force entirely to the force to send a message to Luke.

*force helps obiwan defeats several sith lords*

*force makes him take a L to vader*

*to send luke a message*

it's suppose to be used for knowledge and defense, according to jedi. you have to understand they (jedi and sith) have a certain set of ideals when it comes to what the force should be used for. any type of aggressive move or usage was discouraged by the jedi but embraced by the sith. and honestly, i'm just convinced that was probably the best way to go. he sacrificed himself so that he could give luke a chance to develop and learn what he needed to learn. i mean, luke didn't know vader was his father and what would have been the point of telling him if he (obi-wan) killed him?

Vader wasn't the problem.
The force could give a fukk about the beings in the galaxy. All it cares about is its own balance. Not negative or positive. Just balanced. That's why Obi-Wan was instrumental. He was the only being involved who could ignite the spark to bring a return to balance.
You'd have to read the books to understand that though. The movies left out a LOT.

Luke got even stronger after his pop & Vader bit the dust and his kid was born (read the stories)

Obi was prolly the fourth or fifth strongest dude with the force
