I'm trying to stick up for Kyrie here. Cats have microwaved AD as the best big after one playoff run next to Bron, and I was just seeing if they applied the same logic to Kyrie back in '16.

how did I microwave AD when the premise of this thread is he's been the best big for the better part of a decade. Steph was and has been better than Kyrie his entire career, and Russ/Dame were right there with him too.

this situation is different. there's nobody really on AD's level as a big when it comes to what he brings on both sides of the ball.


and the people calling Giannis a big need to cut it the fukk out (even though AD still gets the nod here, admittedly if only for this last playoff run). I don't give a damn if the man was 8 feet tall, a small forward will never be a big even if they do technically play in the front court. When I hear big I think of the roles they play and responsibilities they have patrolling the paint, grabbing rebounds, screens etc. night in and night out. If a wing had the job of a big he wouldn't be a wing.

Yes, but you can give it to Embiid and say "go to work" whereas I feel AD is much more dependent on getting the ball in an advantageous position because of work the guard did. A guard just give it to Embiid, he needs to create for AD

The only argument IMO to be made to the contrary is with Giannis...if people want to consider the freak a wing, then AD is the best big in the league by a comfortable margin ...if Giannis is a big, I'd STILL have to think about it... offensively, from a scoring standpoint AD is just flat out more skilled...we just watched Davis give DPOY level defensive impact while dropping 30 a game with KD/Kawhi type efficiency from mid-range...

this "aww but none of that counts cause he plays with LeBron" shyt is some of the laziest shyt ever... muhfukkas LeBron is playing with him too..the Lakers were in the fukking lottery last year, only a .500 team in games Bron played..and all of a sudden transformed into a title team that hung it's hat on elite defense...AD before the Lakers was a three time all NBA first teamer (as far back as the 2014 season), a top 3 MVP vote getter his last full season with the Pelicans, and was putting up fukking prime Shaq numbers for a whole playoff run before getting eliminated by the same Warrior squad that swept LeBron ....we're not a month removed from watching AD wash Jokic on both ends of the court and we're supposed to entertain him being better?

I don't think either of their game's changed or elevated all that much, AD just happened to get a change of scenery and played next to Bron. If Giannis was playing the Draymond role next to Klay and Steph, he'd look even more unstoppable than he ever has.

AD is obviously a better shooter, but Giannis is the much better ball handler and running the break/in transition he's probably the best I've ever seen excluding Bron. Their defense is even.

I think it's close and AD is a damn monster, but I'd give the edge to Giannis. It's too convenient to say playoffs NOW matter when he had Bron holding him down while he was getting 2 rebounds in a game. Giannis hasn't had the luxury of playing next to another generational talent and until he does, he has to bring it every night or his team likely loses. That's just the reality of their current situations.

both those guys gotta show up and be the best player every night. They don’t have the luxury of off nights and bron carry them. Boy couldn’t win finals mvp with bron gift wrapping it for him. He’s a very skilled player, top 3 skilled in the nba but as a player he ain’t better then those guys. He’s not leading any team deep. Played 2 games without bam and the rest of the series vs a injuried one and bron still has to do it

nikka yes! Who the hell thought Giannis was better than AD coming INTO 2018-2019?? Anybody who thought Giannis was a better basketball player than Anthony Davis coming into last year was flat out wrong... Giannis' team won 44 games the prior year in 2017-18 (since you value regular season records) then promptly was embarrassed against the little kiddie ass Celtics in the first round .... Where once again (surprise surprise) he went ghost in game 7 of that series went 7-17 and Kris Middleton severely outplayed him have you not watched Giannis get turned into a feckless bulldozer the past 3 seasons in the playoffs where there's actual high leverage basketball being played ... Who cares about his ballhanding on fastbreaks when you can sag off him so far that he can't effectively use that skill in high leverage moments to consistently get to the rim in the half court ... the gap between AD's and Giannis shooting especially the variety of shooting (turnarounds/spotups/free throws) is far greater than whatever advantage you think Giannis has over Anthony in the ball handling department... Once the fastbreaks are stopped we have seen what he turns into

If you as a basketball evaluator don't prioritize playoff performances where you're playing the best talent we simply don't speak the same language... All this shyt about him not having a "generational talent" next to him is fine regarding excusing TEAM performance just like people understood that Lebron wasn't winning a chip in Cleveland with that squad he had I get that part and of course Giannis is still top 10 ...BUT the individual output shortcomings are a on him and his inadequacies... no need to try to make excuses for that ... it won't help him moving forward if that's what the people around him are feeding him
