the most ironic thing eye took from the whole thing is that didn't Jay Electronica allegedly steal his rhymes too..what happened with that whole saga..?
Defamation of character because he accused a musician of not writing his lyrics...are you serious
Wow, is this real?
I'd imagine Jay Elec wrote shyt on Untitled. He was in the studio producing, and no doubt bounced ideas around with Nas. This shyt happens all the time: dudes are in the studio, lines are passed around, someone says "ayo you know what would sound hotter?" etc etc etc. That's not "ghostwriting" it's called collaborating. If it was good enough for John Lennon and Paul McCarthy to do, it should be good enough for Nas and Jay Elec to do
nikka only worked on 1 song that made the album...this bytch talkin like she heard 6 reference tracks n shyt...on some Biggie referencing lil kims verse for get money type shyt..shorty straight up lied...
Reading thru her timeline heres what I gather:
1. She was responding to Harry Belefonte's criticism of Jay Z for not using his fame to be an activists
2. A fan asks why can't Jay put out something like Nas-Untitled, the point she was trying to make is "that doesn't count becuz Stic Man and Jay E wrote all the radical/political stuff". Basically Jay Z writes what he feels and Nas uses other peoples ideas. Then says shes not impressed by "Daughters" either (kinda implying that somebody might have wrote that for Nas too). But she liked Distant Relatives (without mentioning how much of that album was ghostwritten).
3. Then that weirdo uses the Dream Hampton tweets as an excuse to writes his trash blog post about a phone call he got at Hot 97 from Jay Electronica himself. And obviously the guy didn't ask any follow up questions...he just started crying.
4. Hours Later Dream Hampton says she heard 6 reference tracks.
Basically Dream Hampton set this off basically to take credit from Nas for doing that album. Her point is "Don't criticize Jay becuz no else is any better". So she may not have a reason to outright "lie" but she is spinning the truth to boost Jay by discrediting Nas...just like we do here on SOHH/The Coli.
jayelec definately cowrote QGTMl
If you peep game, Dream Hampton threw out a red herring, a smoke screen. She gave a very weak response as to why Jay cant make a record like Untitled. Instead she diverted the attention to Nas on some hate sh*t, in which her "claim" had nothing to do with the question. haha
Do we know that's true? He was in the studio playing Nas tracks, Nas played him some tracks. It's not unlikely to assume Jay threw some lines at Nas and vise versa. And like I said, ain't nothing wrong with that.
It sounds like the Untitled studio session was the last time Jay Elec did any work on music
Dream Hampton is also a biased writer who wrote the review for "Blueprint" in Vibe, and tried to speak out both sides of her mouth by saying Jay took Prodigy and Nas out to the woodshed in "Takeover," but then stating that she didn't want to incite anymore violence so she'd drop speaking on it, and made this supposedly her last hip-hop review.
She also co-wrote Decoded with Jay, has been known to write ridiculous larger-than-life pieces and stories about her interview subjects (D'Angelo, Tupac, Jay-Z), while gently dissing their contemporaries in order to separate them from these figures.
She's also had claims that she fukked D'Angelo, and Jay, and has been deeply criticized for her writing so much on Okayplayer, that her friend Questlove had to come in and defend her.
If we're going to speak on her accomplishments, let's talk about all the (justified, IMO) criticism of hers as well, ESPECIALLY as it pertains to this.
As far as Frank goes, I remember a few "Nas lost" posts from him in the early 00s, that's not to say that he didnt grow out of it. But once again, this doesn't necessarily mean that stic.man and Jay Elect sat down and wrote Nas verses.
